Problems acidifying lemon tree soil

The soil of my lemon trees (about 1yr old trees from seeds) had an alkaline soil. I read that you could mix 1/2c vinegar with half gallon of water and water to get the pH down. I did this and about an hour or two after watering, the plant was starting to wilt. Have I killed it? Is there anything I can do to save it?
