eyeglass frames

I know we have talked about this in the past. I learned about try at home Warby Parker here which I tried but failed at. I finally decided I would go to this great local eyeglass place and get some fun, nice looking frames at any cost. I do have an vision plan at work so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. In any case I found a brand of frames that I am practically addicted to - Ogi.

I like the cat eye kind of shape and bought a very cool pair last year. This year I decided it was time to buy a new pair of sunglasses - current frames must be a least ten years old. So I got another cool pair. I had a hard time deciding between two different frames for the sunglasses so went back the next week and got another pair of glasses with the second choice frames for the sunglasses (quantity discount). It is so fun to have some colorful, interesting glasses for a change. They provide a nice distraction from the signs of aging on my 60 year old face.

Anyway just thought I'd mention my great luck with this brand in case anyone is looking. I think their distribution is only through bricks and mortar, not online, and not inexpensive. Ogi

I need new eyeglasses so thanks for the info. I had to laugh at you getting cat eye ones though. I'm your age and I remember getting my first glasses at age seven(?). Mom insisted on cat eyes. I hated them but mom got her way. The next time we went for glasses I wanted wire rimmed. It was the sixties, wire rims were cool, and I WANTED them. Too bad for me. Mom told me that the only thing available in her youth was wire rimmed. And she hated them. (So I should too, apparently.) We compromised on a pair of brown rectangular frames. She didn't like them but at least they weren't wire. I will never, ever, ever wear cat eye frames again! ;-)

    Those do look very pretty!

FWIW, I am a fan of ZenniOptical.com since I got the cutest pair of prescription sunglasses from them for about $28 (!) to replace the much more expensive ones I lost during hurricane Irma. I like them a lot better than the ones I lost and they fit better too.

The ones I lost were pretty new, but just beyond the warranty and I did not want to spend a lot to replace them, so I was delighted to find Zenni.

I bought 2 pair of prescription glasses from Zenni about 4 months ago. I love them and they look better and seem to have a slightly better lens. The prescription lens seem better and clearer than my optical store expensive glasses. I think I am going to order more considering one pair was $12.99 and the second was $19.99. Different colors and shapes for different outfits. I also need a sport pair which is very reasonable.

It is too bad I'm just not an online bargain hunter with eyeglasses as I am with most everything else. If I didn't have progressive lenses I might go for it but I've had to have those things redone a few times which I can't imagine doing online. As mentioned, I did try to find some frames but just never found what I was looking for. There are a few things I don't go cheap on - my hair, my handbags and my eyeglasses.

Perfectly understandable. I need only single vision lenses, not progressives.

I need progressives. I looked at Warby Parker twice, but nope. My last two pairs have been LaFont from a local place which I really like, but the finished pair is about $750 which makes me cringe.

I don't have progressives so that makes a big difference.

I'm sitting here looking at you through a pair of Warby Parker frames.Upton although they no longer offer the color of mine which are tortoise shell. I wish I had them in the Sea Smoke Tortoise. I kind of like it.The frames are definitely not as good quality as more expensive frames I have had in the past, but they are pretty sturdy. Still, the next time I get frames I will go back to a good optician. I did get a rather expensive pair of frames from See ( trendy chain) but after I had them I realized that when I smile the frames touch the tops of my cheeks. I have invested a small fortune in glasses. I've gotten lenses from Costco but they are inconsistent. Back to spending $100s on glasses. Love those Ogi frames

Just jumping in quick to say I talked highly about Zenni in the past on here and after many, many issues with a few orders from them, DH and headed back to our local eye doctor. It wasn't worth the aggravation.

The frames I purchased were the same ones I ordered from them a few years prior which I wore on a regular basis because I liked them so much. The inside plastic started to peel so I wanted a new pair. I kept having issues with the plastic frames cracking (four or five replacements). I started to think they had a bad batch and requested a credit to order a different pair. They agreed, I went with a similar style and went through the same frame snapping issue. I'd put them on and they'd just snap. I do not have a big head. :) Zenni did keep trying to correct things though shipping was very slow. They finally decided to recut the lenses. This whole thing went on for months. My last pair of glasses are still in one piece but I don't wear them very often and certainly not while out without a backup pair. And DH and I both felt like our prescription wasn't correct.

I went to America's best this time and I absolutely love my glasses. I like the frame and they did a spectacular job on my very difficult lens prescription. And a good price. I didn't get the 2 pair. My prescription with the add on options I wanted were not in the special price range but the frame was extremely reasonable. I will go back and we will be getting my husband some there soon.

They are matte black on the outside and purple on the inside. I love the purple color wish it was on the outside. This is a brand by Beyonce's company. I had never heard of it.

I will add that when I ordered, I was very careful to check all the measurements/dimensions of the frame against a pair I have that fit well and double checked my prescription for the pupil distance as well. I believe I had a very well done eye exam and prescription to work with.

Invariably I have to return to have the fit adjusted. I think one of my ears is lower/higher than the other and it always seems my glasses are sitting crooked on my face. So, when you order online, how do you deal with that?

As much as I hated paying as much as I did for my glasses, I love everything about the LaFont frames. My first are two-tone purple and I think that's the color frame I should always wear.

Linelle, that is part of the reason I will no longer order online. My WPs needed adjustment so I sheepishly went to a local optician. I offered to pay but he did not charge me but he did make the comment that the frames were not very good quality. I am not so sure about that since I imagine the online and "mall" optical stores are eating into his business.

Good news(?) I heard that Warby Parker is planning on opening 100 brick & mortar locations around the country.

We already have one on Walnut Street in Philadelphia, although I have not gone there. They also have a selection of them at a store in Old City (not far from HHIreno's fire) called Art in The Age on N 3rd St. I did go there once and it was helpful but WP has many more frames than they could display. I enjoyed the home try-on option, but not all frames are eligible for that. Frames shopping is a nightmare for me.

Frame shopping is a nightmare indeed. I have a good sense of the shape and size I need (rectangular) but I really need a pro to help me navigate the little details and subtleties that make a difference.

I no longer care about the price of frames--as long as they look good on me. I mean, there's a thing sitting right smack on your face, through which one must look to make eye contact. If you give a moment's extra thought about your hair and/or eye makeup, a frame is too important to get wrong.

    I could not agree more!

My 21 y.o. son has had his Warby Parker glasses for over a year now. He is not the easiest on frames, but so far so good. We did purchase the glasses at their store in Newport Beach, CA. Not sure I would be ready to go totally online with eyeglasses yet.

I get a lot of compliments on my Vera Wang. These are called Raina, and I have them in this tortoiseshell, which match my hair really well. They are available in other colors, but I've been super happy with these. I have an eye exam in a couple of weeks so I may end up with another pair in another color. I have progressive bifocals.

This is a subject that is near & dear to me. LOL! I've been wanting new frames for a while now, but my progressive script kept changing, meaning I needed new lenses every 6 months. (Cause is cataracts forming, we're watching them)

So the last time I was at the eye doctors, my script hadn't changed that much so I decided I wanted new frames. I looked around at the selection at my eye doctors and was disappointed. I told the Optometrist that I wanted color, but not just one color.

He told me to pick out a frame from the Tom Davies selection; I also like rectangular frames, and then I could customize the colors that I wanted. Colors, plural .... he pulled out these folders of amazing colors and I picked 4 different colors for my frames. They aren't cheap, and they took a while to come in since they were custom made for me, but I love them. And I will wear them for years to come.

Tom Davies has ready to wear (RTW) also, but if you find an Optometrist that carries the line, you can customize the colors of your own frames.

I had a pair with similar coloring, pam-- though mine were from LA Eyeworks and a modified cat eye. They were an ombre titanium.. went from dark steely blue on the top to a deep dark purple. I loved them! This photo doesn't show the color well because it is so blown up-- but it shows the shape.

I had to retire these about 2 yr ago but I do still love them.

I really like the Eye Bob readers I have seen but I haven't found regular frames that I like. My local shop (to whom I have become very loyal) hasn't carried many of them.

Looks like I will be ordering new frames soon. Can't stomach looking at them just yet (I can't tell you how many pairs of glasses I've ordered in the last 2 yr!) but I will soon!

I just went to our local Warby Parker for a new pair-puppy got hold of my current pair. I have been very happy with mine for two years. I also ordered sunglasses this time. Mine are more expensive because they are progressives, but my DIL ordered hers for $95. She knows the two guys who started the company-says they are both down-to-earth delightful men.
