moving into a loft condo

The kitchen is very small and dated. I’m having a hard time envisioning something different. I like a minimalist look and I like industrialist look. I was thinking paint everything a bright white, leave the floor and maybe even the cabinets. Change hardware and the counter is awful! Any ideas how to bring this all together?

that counter is horrible. so is that stove. those two things just need to disappear. You can find slightly used stoves on craigslist for a few hundred, in much better shape than what you have. Even Lowes has super deals for a few hundred. heck, open an account and get fee financing for 18 months!

is it just you? do you really need a DW? I'd lose that for some more storage space. I'd also get a deeper sink. hate shallow sinks. you have a killer window. I'd tile that entire space.

paint the cabinets,(white, black) get new hardware and find some other countertop. you didn't give a budget, so I have no idea what you can afford. Tile that one wall and put in some open shelving. do cheap subway tile if you can't afford anything else. industrial style shelving can be done yourself for $50. look on Pinterest for ideas and how to's.

counters, check remnants at local stone yards, craigslist or try the Pre-Fabricated quartz countertops. this is near my stone yard, and is one of 50 different types of pre-fabs. cost? about 400 bucks. hire someone to cut and install for another 800 or so.

if that's too much, look for a butcher block at Floor and Decor or Ikea.

paint your bottoms black and the uppers white. you have good lighting in there

That dishwasher probably does a lousy job. We rented a vacation condo with one of those that fits beneath a sink one time. Ugh. There's no top spray, so food gets blasted up and just sits there.

Since you hate the counter and the kitchen is small, consider an 18" dishwasher and a new sink beside it. If you don't want to reconfigure the cabinets, keep that width and slide a new sink to the left a bit.

Thank you. Great ideas. Never thought about the dishwasher. I did think it was weird that it was directly under the sink...
I love the the concrete counters idea. I really hate the counters that are there. Thick tile. I may have to paint them until I can afford the concrete.

The most economical for most effect, would be to paint walls & cabinets white. It will also look nice with the white trim in home. When you can a new countertop, it will be easy to match on white cabinets.

Or save up & redo everything.

Save up and redo. Use apartment sized appliances like I did in this galley kitchen remodel. The scale was much better for the space.

Is your current budget for paint and new knobs? Or are you ready for an all new kitchen with new cabinets, appliances, and so on? Ikea would be a good fit for the style you want.

If you are going to save up for a new kitchen, bring the current look together with a Roman shade over the sink in a modern black/white/brown print fabric you love. Check Marimekko prints or Ikea ready-made curtains.

All white would look nice, maybe changing the wall color will help add some life to the room too.

Paint wood white, new counters even if they're a modern laminate, new hardware. This will make a huge difference :)

Love the open shelving idea Beth. Would you do it on the wall with the window?

It seems like painting everything white will make a big difference here. If you can also get a new oven that might be great too. I'm sure you'll update the hardware too.
