When our subdivision was built 45 years ago, two of the roof trusses had the bottom chords cut, by the builder, to make room for the stairway to the second level. the space above the cut trusses is just attic area. the area of the cut bottom chords was near the center of the trusses.

Can I remove the interior wall that runs underneath the cut chords to make one large great room?

Questions like this should not be asked on Houzz. A professional needs to examine your exact situation and determine what is and isn't safe. In general removing the wall is nearly always doable but how it is done needs an on site evaluation.

Ditto Main Line's advice. A quick look over by an engineer is a lot less expensive than a caved-in roof. A structural engineer can render an opinion for $300 - $500 (cheap insurance). Stamped drawings for 3 to 5 times that.

generally speaking, trusses are never engineered for the cutting of the bottom cord. Usually a no go
