You mean the floor or the walls? I guess for the floor it would be okay but remember it is full of tuny places where tuff can collect as for it on walls never would I do that really for the same reason. I like a shower that can be squeegeed after every shower and easy to clean when needed. that is not slate.

Are you thinking real slate? or a slate look porcelain tile?

was considering real slate but since this is in the planning stage could go either way, think it will depend on price...

There's more to consider than just the cost of the material; installation costs may not be the same when using real stone, the on going maintenance of one versus the other.

Buy a sample slate tile to prop up in your current shower for a month to see how much soap scum builds up on it. Write your name on the sample slate with bar soap, then try to wash it off. Pick up a sample porcelain tile and do the same.

Also, to get the full effect of nearly black slate surrounding you, tape up some black plastic bags or black builder's paper on the walls and floor for 20 minutes to see how much additional lighting you'll need to see your toes.

slate needs to be sealed,,,a lot. you can only use stone cleaner to clean the shower. constant usage will require a bit more upkeep. for the floor you would use the mosaics. you would also need the gauged slate. It's not a horrible choice, but it can get a bit dark and cave-like. I have slate in my kitchen. it's not slippery. I don't think I'd use it for my shower though, not with all the great porcelain options.

What about gray ? In classic bathroom?
