Sometimes if the bulb is stressed due to improper storage or curing, it will abort some of the blooms as a survival tactic. I have had this happen many times and I just carefully cut the aborted blooms and I think this will help the bulb put more energy to the remaining blooms. Either way, it should be fine once it starts rooting and replenishing the bulb for next years blooms. Many times I have cut the emerging scape if it looks like it'll be deformed or damaged and this may encourage another scape to emerge.

I too have had this happen. My biggest problem appears to be when bud only makes it half way out of the bulb and then tries to open!! This happened last year to my Madame Butterfly on my large mother bulb. The remaining portion of the bud that didn't make it out then rotted inside the bulb causing the bulb to send up three different sections of leaves from this now damaged mother bulb. Sort of like what happens when a NBF does its damage. So now I have to wait for my mother bulb to regrow but I should have 3 bulbs when she's finished!!!

I have shriveling buds even on older well established bulbs so I really don't what causes this and I know it's frustrating for sure!!!

My Sweet Nymph's first bloom stalk had seven blooms, and aborted three. The second had six, and aborted two. Both of these stalks were short and it was in early January. The third stalk (In mid-february, still blooming), normal height, had seven (two fused) buds and all of them opened, though one of them was pretty slow.

This is my first year of growing her, so it may well be a first year thing. I'll post back here (if I remember) next year if it happens again.

This is currently happening on 2 of my Red Peacocks I got from ETGBs this season. One bulb, the 1st bloom is trying but only 3/4 out the scape and facing upward. The other bulb, 2 healthy scapes are forming but a 3rd in the middle looks like it's turning yellow.
