King Bed Blanket Size?

I'm having a tough time creating that oversized/luxurious bedding appearance on my king size bed, because all duvets/duvet covers and blankets seem to be made *just* wide enough to cover the top of the king size mattress with little overhang.

Is there an option to create a longer overhang with a blanket placed at the bottom of a king size bed?

I'd like to have one folded at the bottom as is seen in these photos I'm attaching, but these are all queen beds with what looks like a king size blanket over them.

Should I be looking at custom options exclusively?

Thanks in advance!

I can relate to this. I'm dealing with the same thing for the queen bed in our guest room. The differences in sizing can be drastic. I suppose with a queen you could always buy king size. Will check the links given here. Thanks for posting your question, anomoley!

Thanks to all of you who posted... however, I still don't think that solves my dilemma. Here's why:

My current duvet and cover are 108" wide. This is a "standard" king size for a duvet. Here's how it looks over my bed...

There IS overhang, but not nearly as much as seen in those photos I posted. Is there anything wider made, or does that not exist?

    Thanks again. :)

The thickness of your mattress will affect the amount of duvet overhang you have.

anomoley, I wonder if there's a chance those are queen beds in your photos with king size bedding over the foot of the beds...?

Oops...sorry...just realized you're ahead of me on that thought!

Maybe a bedspread instead that can be about 118" x 120" for a king. We have one folded at the end of our Cal king. I just like the way it looks with a longer drop...as in your photos.

chloebud: I love this idea! I didn't think of it, but you're right... 120" would probably work nicely! Thanks a bunch! :))

Yes, bedspreads are intended to have a lot of overhang. Duvets are intended to cover the mattress scantily.

For what it's worth, I think your bed looks very pretty and cozy. :-)

anomoley, I think many of us tend to think "grandma" when it comes to bedspreads. However, they have a place for our purpose! :-)

Somewhat related to this topic...bed skirts. I never thought finding one with the right size drop length could be so hard. I needed a 16" drop for our guest room bed. Looked and looked to no avail. I finally found one on Ballard Design's site. Not inexpensive but the right size, color and design. I even called Ballard to confirm the 16" measure with a "product specialist." Yes...definitely 16". It arrived...beautiful quality BUT the drop length was almost 18 1/2". I was so irritated...back it went! LOL...sorry...a bit of digression!

I hear you, chloebud! I got the bedskirt custom made (Etsy, it's linen and is of beautiful quality... in love with this specific seller's work)... because I wanted it to be a touch longer than my 14.5" box spring height. So the bedskirt is 16" and I love it, but couldn't find that length anywhere domestically either! Frustrating for sure.

I also think it's frustrating and misleading that companies advertise their bedding with photos where king size bedding is very clearly used over queen size beds. Those of us with king beds can never get that same effect they show in their advertising materials. Not right!

Ugh...who knew bedding could be such a pain! And advertising king size bedding on queen beds is really annoying!

A king size mattress is 78" wide. The standard king size duvet cover is 104x90. If you put the cover so that the long way is across the bed, that leaves a 13" drop on each side. If you have a deep mattress, it's probably at least 14" deep. Oops! So what you need is a Super King duvet and cover. They are 112x100.

Our Cal king mattress is 72" x 84". Not a big difference but pretty sure a standard king is 76" x 80".
