Please help with my kitchen remodel !!!

Here are some pics of my kitchen. We plan to have the cupboards painted and new granite counter, under-mount sink, and backsplash. The floor is new and will stay. We can't afford new appliances just yet - perhaps stainless steal one day. I am looking for some of that wow factor you see in magazines. Right now it just feels all wrong. I just don't know where to start and how to choose. We have found a guy who will spray the cabinets and we found a good place to get granite. I am thinking white or ivory cabinets and a light counter top. I am also ready to change out the light fixtures. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I really wished I had chosen interior design as a career - maybe now I would have a bit more confidence.

one more question - see those angles on the island counter top? Should we keep those on the new surface of just have it square?
I think square will do because that angle blocks the overall view of the kitchen. The background color looks dull to me. Shades of light yellow, peach or cream will make it more homey. You might try light raspberry if you dare as a background.

( I can't change the orientation of the island - just the angles of the counter - is that what you mean)

I do like the light raspberry idea for color - the only think I forgot to mention is that the kitchen is open floor plan to the living room - which has that same dull color also. I guess I will just have to paint all that too.....here is a view looking out from the kitchen.....sorry for the clutter but it gives you an idea

so if I used some raspberry on an accent wall... what would be a good color for the other walls?

Your kitchen looks exactly like mine and we are in planning stages to. We are refacing cabinets in Antique White and island in chocolate the counters will be Quartz light color with marble effect and white subway tiles for back splash. Our new floor is darker maple whiskey. I think I will paint all the walls some sort of light creamy color with maybe wall opposite island with a darker color. Hard to add color in open concept Your island is different than ours but we are putting a wine rack down one side. Also I think your stairs are beautiful and would look great with spindles painted white like the trim and leave top rail and post stained

PS you have a lovely home and I wouldn't call that clutter

yes... I want to do that to the stairs eventually....I love white trim... that is the other things... we have added a lot of white trim (still an ongoing process) so I am thinking that maybe the same color cabinets would be good? But we have small children !!!!! So I don't know. When do you start your kitchen Shadon? I want to see - can you post a pic? I want to see it when it's done too !!! I am wondering if maybe white cabinets with a dark granite would be good and then maybe blue walls of some shade. I just keep tossing around ideas. (the dark granite is cheaper). Anyway. good luck with yours. When we get our done - it will be a few months - I will post some 'after pics'.
