Donna, I think your photo of 'Awakening Angel' in the HL needs an update! Nice plant! And 'Amalia' = jaw drop, and drool!

I'm adding hostas among the heuchera, a work in progress. Another bed under a 40 yo blue spruce. We had to limb it up for sight lines to the street, couldn’t stand the bare ground. It’s a four year work in progress that requires soaker hoses. Another bed with some additions last spring. Had to remove some Elegans seedling volunteers that were crowding out Paul’s Glory, near the top of the photo.Oops, I fibbed one more. This is where Bridal Falls lives with Sunpower and a shared hosta from a neighbor, I think it’s a Ventricosa? These troupers are growing near the base of a maple tree, another soaker hose required.

Thanks for indulging me Sherry, it looks like you're doing an incredible job, even in such trouble areas. The last photo is a hot group. I noticed a lack of ferns...are you a fern hater? Hehe, just kidding. I've found a lot of ferns do well in trouble spots. I have a hard time growing Heuchs and Geraniums, looks like they do well for you.

Steve,thanks for the compliment! I have a few Japanese ferns growing at the base of some clematis, I’ve had mixed results here with ferns, heuchera do great, I probably have about 20 varieties of heuchera. I’ve gotten to be a bit lazy with the garden, don’t have anything I classify as “fussy” anymore. Everything is on its own other than watering I do at times. The only thing I do is put milorganite on the gardens with a hand speader several times in the spring, keeps the bunnies at bay.

Thank you Paula for your ongoing efforts to lead us to spring! It is -15°C at the moment and everything looks like shock frosted, even the Galianthus are hanging their heads :-( The sun is shining, that is at least something after this terrible grey and wet winter...

Karin..Fulda is beautiful!..I've never seen that one..I've killed a few of my heucheras..when I read about them it said that people buy them anyway and just think of them as annuals..

Great shots Karin! And thanks for the heuchouragement. I have managed to find a few spots where they will grow, but they just don't thrive. I'm a lazy gardener and don't fertilize like I should, but recent info tells me I probably lack mycorrhizae in my soil, so...fertilize I must.

I'm not good in fertilizing either, Steve. But I'm lucky to have my garden on a piece of land that had been river land a century ago and the soil is rich and heavy from what the river had left until they changed it's course. I often add sand, pine bark and small lava stones to make it easier for the roots. The Heuchera grow at the same places as the hosta...I also mix them in my hosta pots, each plant in it's own smaller pot.

Got lots of babies last spring, easier to divide than hostas...

Nicholsworth, Fulda is from a series of hostas that are named after german rivers and towns by hybridizer Heinz Klose, he might not been known widely. There are some very nice blue ones in this line and I like it a lot...gave me some great pictures so far (good to play around with color)...

Such wonderful and mature plants have been posted. I doubt seriously that my Emerald Ruff Cut or Lk. Paisley Print will ever look like the beautiful ones above.

I am not sure what decides what is med. and what is small. I was trying to find a group shot with one of my favorites which is Carolina Sunshine. Here are four plants and the size given by the Hosta Library. The largest, Jaws, is called small.

Steve ,I have about 450 cultivars and around 1500 plants. It’s a disease that does not have a cure.

Sunnywood- I know you’re enjoying Hawaii... how can you not?! We were there a couple of years ago and I was absolutely entranced by the plant life. I took so many pictures... and thankfully my DH didn’t mind going to botanical gardens with me - fascinating!

I doubt you’ll see any hostas there, but you have beautiful hostas to come home to.

Well, the alphabet in general, and this thread in particular, is making me realize that I need to get better about taking pictures. I have a bunch that are technically mediums, but no photos (or none worth sharing).
