Help with Fireplace design, please!

What would you do with the following fireplace wall?

Below is an inspiration photo that we like... But are there other, better ideas out there? I'd say our style in contemporary, transitional, and with a touch of masculine/rustic.

This room will be SW Colonnade Gray on walls, with SW Gauntlet Gray on the ceiling... These are the basic colors/textures (excuse the lighting which makes it all look sepia)

Is this fireplace only for retreat, relaxation sitting area like a smokers lounge? No watching tv

This is the main great room of the home. TV will be above the fireplace unfortunately... No kids - just the husband and I

Why won’t you do it exactly as your inspiration pic is it too formal for I was thinking using shiplap with slate

Then I guess I will! Good to know we nailed it!

I think you should see how your inspiration photo will appear once you add a flatscreen to the wall.

Please note that the wood molding will run BEHIND the flatscreen with this particular size TV unless you adjust the wood spacing and really think this through.

I don't mind it running behind the TV. I think that looks great, thank you! Why do you feel that should be of concern? Also, we're thinking of painting it SW Black Fox so that the TV does not stand out so much, and to add some color contrast in the room.

Here it is drawn to scale! 72 inches wide, 9 feet tall. 5 ft mantle. 60 inch TV. The wall is 18ft long. I think it could work nicely. The flat wall was the struggle for us, but I think this could work.

I think your idea is lovely and would work. However another thought would be to build around the fireplace and TV and add some depth and texture. This (photo) might not be the exact style you are looking for ( a little too traditional) but the concept is good. It would allow for some display shelves/cabinets with lights next to fireplace (looks like from the photos you have space) with some bench seats under the windows.

Looks good and well planned. Good luck.

One thing you should keep in mind is that, even if you have a 60 inch TV now, they are almost non-existent in new TVs. If you need to buy a new one, you will probably wind up with a 55 or, more likely, a 65 inch TV. That's just a few inches wider and taller, so you might want to check your layout with that too.

    I like your selections.

Me and my partner are actually tackling this same project in our home. We decided to go with a stacked stone look instead of trim!

Looks very nice! What is the width of the stone and width of fireplace unit in the center? We are designing a fireplace for the center of a 19 to 20 foot wall, current layout is for a stacked stone with hearth 8 feet wide with a 6 foot fireplace box in the center. Is 8 ft. wide substantial enough for this great room with 10 ft. ceilings and room 20 ft. wide x 24 ft long?
