It is hard to visualize with the brown rug in the view. If you could move the rug, we can place other rugs in the space for you. I have been looking for a nice, well priced wool rug and the problem I am having is getting a green/blue that will work with that vase. So, I will keep hunting. Are you ordering the silver wall hanging?

Guess Robin will have to see. I surely think something lighter is better and this has a traditional pattern with a bit of a twist to modern and I believe it will play with the large vase. But Robin is the true judge of what she wants in this space. The new settee is white or off white so the rug needs to work well with that and the flooring. The blue/green tones are the toughest to coordinate.

The lighter will show dirt. It will need more cleaning.

It really depends on how much that door is used. If it is mainly for guests and family walks through daily, then you will have to watch and clean it maybe every 6 months. Wood tends to be easier to live with and easier to clean as well. That's why I've been looking for wool. I also think with some tone on tone or subtle patterns that tends to help with the "soil" factor as well.

Agreed. I'm no pro, but I've had wool rugs and they do hold up very well.

What a fun thread of ideas! You have a beautiful space to work with. I love the table and chairs. I do think that you need to add a rug and lighten up the space a bit.

A larger Chandelier will balance the table.

I would add lighter draperies or sheers to the windows. I would bring in a vertical piece to add height to the room as well . I have added an inspiration board for fun and a different take on the space than above.

do you find it too light Flo or is it too big for the foyer as the round one, I wanted to a much slimmer one like a 6x9. Her round one was 8 feet. esalerugs usually have 6x9 but for this rug it didn't.

I think it looks too light and thin. those type rugs tend to slip around and a pad under them doesn't work well either. Size-wise, I think a longer rectangular one is best. Let it mirror the shape of the space.

I think you are right. The dark coloring doesn't relate to other elements in your space. Dining room looks great, so just keep trying. A lighter rug is needed in your space with the dark woods. A beige/off white combo might work really well. Size for this space is really tricky. Do you think you need a big rug in this space? Or just a "step off" rug for folks when they come in the front door? No rug will serve the 4 entry/exit points. Front door, stairs, dining room, hallway. I wonder if a half round step off rug might work at the front door really well??

I like the half round step off idea. I also agree with Flo that the blue rug in the pics above looks too light weight. Even in the pics you can see that it's not laying flat on the floor.
