I think that is a Sans. boncel. I have several of them, and yes, I pretty much care for it the way I care for other Sans. This is part of the cylindrica family and is a hybrid. My understanding is that the particular species comes from Asia and that there, retardants of some type are used to keep them small and cute. I always see them small and chubby when they are for sale. But mine have grown big -- and by big I mean 10" and 12" high. However, I love them the way they are naturally. I have found them easy to propagate from just a single leaf breaking off. They do grow by rhizomes like other Sans so you may find a new plant popping up from the soil one day.

I agee, Laurel's sans does look like Boncel, very short and stout.

Robinswfl, interesting your Boncel's have outgrown the "short, stout" stage, which does indicate the sellers use growth hormones. Didn't know that was the case, the charm of Boncel is its fat, stubby stature.

So do your plants resemble cylindrica now that they're bigger and "off the sauce"?

Well, Russ, they just look like jumbo Boncels. I like the short and chubby look myself, but I am also partial to just letting plants do what they do. Mine stay true to that Boncel "starfish" arrangement -- just BIGGER than the short, chubby guys.

Stuie, better to have pups than not. Congratulations! Three new pups is a lot, but depending on where you are, you can probably make it to spring 2019 before needing to repot. Just think -- you will have Boncel pups to give your friends. I have given a few away, and they are always appreciated because you don't see them everywhere.

Robin, my original boncel I bought 2 years ago already put out 7 full grown pups. Now it's 8,9, and 10. And I'm in central Florida, north of Tampa.
