Bosch 800. Cleanest dishes I’ve ever seen. I have an 18” unit (made in Germany) with water softener. I use Finish tabs and rinse aid. I know this doesn’t answer your question, but I’m so surprised to see your comment. Maybe earlier models weren’t as effective. Miele seems to be the dw of choice on this board.

We put in a KitchenAid Architect Series II in our new home. I absolutely love it. I wanted a Bosch originally, but my DH talked me into a KA.

It cleans really well but the absolute best thing about it is my plasticware comes out dry. That was my complaint with my other DW's in the past.....Asko, Bosch and Thermador. All my tupperware, plastic bowls, cups, etc, were always wet when the cycle was done.

I have a Bosch 500 series, and my dishes haven't been this clean in decades so, sorry, no recommendations from me. However, I have noticed that when I changed from dishwasher pods to a separate detergent and rinse aid, I got a lot better results (for whatever reason.....I switched to pods with my old machine, and they gave me better results there. I had some left over that I used with the Bosch when I first got it).

Hmmmm .... could the problem be with something other than the d/w? Bosch d/w tend to be highly regarded with some people preferring them to Mieles. I have a Miele though and am very satisfied.

Miele is known for their washing machines and dishwashers but they are quite expensive. Also, I am not sure how good the service is and how expensive the spare parts are in the US. If they sell Siemens products manufactured in Germany, I would recommend those as well. They are higher end than Bosch and great products..

We bought a KA KTE204GPS 9 days ago. I am blown away by how well it cleans and dries. Even my 20 year old glasses come out sparkling. I honestly don't think it is necessary to spend $1,000 on a dishwasher...

I and my friend have identical Miele's. The dishes come out clean. . . but, . . .your problems with the highly regarded Bosch are unusual. Maybe you have another problem that should be investigated. Hard water, too much soap or not the correct detergent. Check with the service people at your dealer.

Thanks for all of your advice. The dishes do not seem to come out clean. I rinse everything before I load them in. I put a rinse aid in, and I have also tried every type of detergent. It cleans slightly better with powdered detergent, pods were no good. Also, we clean out the drain at the bottom every few weeks. When I do, I notice standing water around the drain. IS that normal? once in a while, the dishes will have suds on them. I run it 2-3 times without detergent, and eventually the suds go away. And the interior smells dirty, even after the cycle is complete. I also hate the design of the interior, very hard to load. Maybe a newer version has a better interior design? I don't want to pay to have it serviced if I am throwing good money after bad...

First, for modern dishwashers, don't rinse the dishes. Enzyme detergents need some dirt to work on.

Second, how is this unit installed? Do you have a high loop at the disposer? Is the dishwasher run into the sink disposer?

Third, standing water in the pump is normal. Is the water clear?

What detergent are you using? What cycle are you using on the machine?

I would suggest that you start with a sanitizing cycle with a dishwasher cleaner in the unit. Then put some dirty dishes in the unit with something like method smarty tabs or another well regarded tab.

I wonder if your unit is producing hot water. There is a long running thread on Bosch smells with resolutions on the forum that have worked over the years. I will find the link and post it.

There could be some really simple problems but we need a little more information to help you!

Rinsing is the start of your problems. You do not rinse dishes with modern dishwashers.

Water in the bottom is normal. Some. Check to see if it has the high drain loop though. What is your incoming water temperature?

Have you checked for a clogged spray arm?

You need to find a DW detergent with enzymes. Powdered is next. This is where experimenting can get to be annoying.

I don't rinse the items clean, I just scrape off any chunks of food. They are still smeared with food. I think the spray arm is working fine, sometimes I open it midcycle, and there is water spraying from the arm.

Ollie...I couldn’t read the label, so I looked up the ingredients. This is for the powdered detergent:

Ingredients: Sodium chloride (mineral-based processing aid), sodium sulfate (mineral-based processing aid), sodium carbonate (mineral-based cleaning agent), citric acid (plant-derived water softener), sodium percarbonate (mineral-based oxygen stain removal agent), ppg-10-laureth-7 (plant-modified synthetic cleaning agent), sodium polyaspartate (synthetic anti-filming agent), sodium silicate (mineral-based cleaning enhancer), protease and amylase (plant-derived enzyme blend soil removers).

2 immediate problems. No high loop. Bad detergent.

The discharge hose of the DW needs to be secured to the underside of the counter to drain down into the discharge port. That keeps backflow from the sink from entering the DW.

7th generation is not good detergent. It’s bleach based. Try the Kirkland’s brand at Cosco. Powdered.

I had a Miele several years ago that I foolishly purchased before I realized there was no local service. Sure enough when it went out of warranty, it made more sense to replace than repair.

looks like your problem may be solved with your Bosch. Let us know please since I just ordered two of the 800 series.

My and my friends Miele have never needed any service of any kind. I installed both.

Dan...Awesome. As for me..I don't purchase any appliance that can't be easily serviced, no matter how great its reputation.

You don’t need a plumber to change the hose angle. It’s a 5 minute job. Drive a screw part way into the top of your cabinet wall just under the counter. Use a zip tie to secure the hose to it. Done.

The detergent choice is the more critical issue.

Yes, I had my husband secure the hose higher up. I also switched to cascade pods and I no longer have water pooling at the bottom

Are you happy with its performance now? I'm trying to pick out appliances and plan to get Bosch DW, so am interested in your satisfaction.

I am overall happy with it. My model is now 9 years old, I’m not sure if the newer models have different reviews.

Are you cleaning the element under the screen at the bottom? That can make all the difference in the world.....

Before buying a new DW try changing the detergent you use. All detergents have somewhat different chemistry and may work differently with your local water. We had a Bosch 800 DW at our house in AZ and used finish tabs and it was awesome. So when we built our new house in PA put in a Bosch 800 and again used finish tabs and got poor results. We switched to Cascade complete gel packs and the bosch began cleaning like a champ. Something about the finish tabs was just not simpatico with our local water chemistry.

Bosch benchmark here and I love it. Super quiet and dishes always clean. Yes you have to clean filter every few weeks and yes plastic does not dry but it is a great machine. 2.5 years old.
