It was covered with a tree blanket, but it got around 16 and didn't rise above freezing for 3 days this winter. I pruned them last Saturday, and I already noticed more die-back; however, there appear to be no shoots or buds. The wood inside the branches are still green.

16F is rather severe for a Meyer, but I have two in-ground that survived a overnight DIP to 16F - not an extended time period. Survival will depend on what rootstock it is on... do you know? The good news, is that the pot material and the concrete / masonry around and below acted as a bit of a heat sink and probably did not allow the temperature to fall as far as the 16F (air) temp. Pray.

I wouldn't hold my breath for fruit. You would be lucky just to get the tree to regrow leaves.

If you can keep the rootball warm; and it starts to regrow in the next 2-3 weeks, you might have a chance of some fruit this year.

I'm pretty sure the tree is alive because the grafted branches are still green and the rootstock is also growing new shoots. I do hope for leaves and regrowth, and I understand why I may not get fruit this year, so I'm hopeful for next year!

johnmerr How warm should it be? It has been 40s for the low and 60s for the high for a while now. The tree is facing south, so should that help heat the rootball?

Would 45-55 for lows and 60-65 highs be warm enough to stimulate new growth and keep the rootball warm?

warm th6e rootball to 60 + to encourage growth of roots; the air temperature is much less important.
