Your fig is fine. The hole will grow smaller as the trunk grows in diameter until it disappears. Fig stems are pithy, not hard. You fig tree was cutting grown from a 6-8", year old, piece of stem, standard procedure. The stem's tip was cut just above a node. From that node that new shoot grew that you see in the photo. That original cutting stem piece is the bottom of your fig's trunk. The upper part of the trunk is newer growth that came from the top node below the tip cut.. That hole is the pith of the original cutting, perfectly normal. All fig stems have soft piths that when cut, the center develops a hole. Fig wood is soft and weak, especially the pith. Fig wood is not used in carpentry.
