I'm hopeful! It's had a rough life I think and was an acquisition a year ago for 5$ from a reject shelf at a big orchid greenhouse. I saw the original spike bloom with a few large white flowers.

The roots and spike are all coming from under the 4th leaf. And one of the roots has two tips, also something I haven't seen before.

How do the roots look? Do they still plump and green when you water?

When/how are you deciding to water and how are you watering it?

The double root tip looks like the first root tip died from drying out for one reason or another then started trying to grow in another growth point which also dried up. I get the feeling the plant is being kept very dry.

The new roots are plump, they get a 1/4 cup water a week and then get the pot submerged in h20 with some 10-10-10 once a month or every other month if they don't look like they are growing. I haven't had this orchid very long so some things are old growth.

I also since Jan have a humidifier in the small room as well and a pebble tray under an orchid nearby. I think my house is way too dry too. Since adding the humidifier I have had 3 different orchids start spikes, one of which is a miltonia.

1/4 a week doesn't sound like it's giving the plant what it needs but I'm guessing this is how you.water all your orchids and you have success with them? Are they all in this type of pot? This pot will need soaking/flushing at each watering. I also recommend when the plant/pot say it's time to water as opposed to doing it on a schedule.

The humidifier is a great idea! I keep my baby orchids in a room with a heater and humidifier.

I live in San Francisco so the humidity is all over the place. They don't get as much light as I'd like so I worry about mold. Most of my orchids are in pots like these and seem to do well enough. I've only been in SF for 1.5 years so I've also been trying to figure out the climate for growing/light/temp here which is crazy.
