I bought the same box, nice looking roots that I planted and they are already up. I will have to be careful with these, really cold temps the next day or 2, and probably all this month. I was after the Canary Brilliant though. I know Lowe' is not known for accuracy, and annoying that the plants in the box are not tagged. Several eyes so I hope they will bloom next year and not have to wait years to see if they are correct

Mine had several shoots coming up too, and I also planted them this weekend... will see what happens with the cold temps coming our way, I'm a little concerned. I know spring-planted peonies sometimes take longer to bloom than fall-planted peonies so I'm not holding my breath for anything this year (or next?). I totally agree that it would have been nice if the roots had been tagged, but it'll be fun to see where the Canary Brilliant ended up, vs. the Bartzella, once they start blooming in their new spots. I'm actually most excited about the Canary Brilliant, too - I bought the box for the Bartzellas but after Googling the Canary Brilliant I'm thinking I may love it the most - it's absolutely gorgeous. I hope all three of these roots survive!

I covered the plants with straw yesterday, but the heavy winds blew it all off. They look fine though.

I bought Bartzella at Lowe’s or Home Depot several years ago. It grew so fast and into a stunning plant. So I bought Cora Louise a few years later.

I bought a bareroot "Karl Rosenfield" last year at Home Depot and it didn't grow at all! I planted it in extremely sandy soil so it's possible it dried out, but I'm beginning to wonder whether the plant was even alive when I bought it.

Did it have any eyes on it, and/or visible root growth? If not, you're right that it may have already been dead... but I should say, I've found bare root peonies to be extremely forgiving in general; when we moved to our current house I discovered a box of bare root Sarah Bernhardts and Karl Rosenfields that I'd bought at Sam's Club 2 years before, and forgot all about... that box sat in our garage unopened for another year after that before I FINALLY planted them, just to see if anything would grow. The roots looked dead to me when I planted them, though not dried/shriveled up, so I took a chance. Turns out they'd survived sitting in a box for all those years; all four roots took off and are now huge, healthy peonies that give me tons of gorgeous flowers every spring. :)

The ones I planted are all up and growing pretty well, despite the crazy weather. I got Bartzella a few years ago, I had to move it because I planted it in shade due to some misguided advice. Apparently left a small piece accidentally. Moved it and now have 2 gorgeous plants that bloom nicely. I saw Cora Louise the next year, did not buy that day, came back a couple days later and was gone. Have not seen since til this year with the combo package. I got it last fall though, hope I see some blooms.

I amso disappointed! I checked all the Lowe’s in the area and no yellow peonies. I especially wanted the Canary Brilliant, I looked it up and it’s beautiful! If anyone finds it in Ontario or upper New York State, please let me know! Thanks

HM. Boatload at the local Lowes by me. Saw at least 10+. They also had a mix of 2 Bart and 1 coral. PM if you need some help. Shipping cost though.

On 3/31I , purchased the box with 1 Cora Louise and 2 Bartzella. They all three had 4 and 5 eyes.for 30$... I was thrilled because I had paid 119$ for a Takara is a 3 gal pot. But she is already 2.5ft tall and full of buns, waiting in her pot until the freezes are finishef .. I also purchase 3 Coral Sunset, 2 Sorbet and 1 Felix Crousse, in the small bags I picked thru them to make sure I saw eyes on them.. this is where i puchased my first peonies and they are gorgeous..

Be sure and post a picture when your Tamara blooms! I already had Sorbet and coral sunset, but could not resist at the price so got them anyway. Mine are up and look pretty good for being so recently planted.

I have been itching for a yellow for a while,price tag always stopped me.I have not found any at the local Lowes or Home Depot but will keep looking.

These Itohs have been taking the box store peony scene by storm the last few years. I bought Bartzella at lowes two years ago. It didn't really bloom well the following spring, but has increased dramatically in size, and has even budded out from some of the woody stems left from last year. I can only imagine these grow very easily for the large commercial farms, or they wouldn't be appearing everywhere. They really are an ideal plant for those looking for tree-peony like blossoms with herbaceous peony ease of cultivation and cold hardiness.

Sadly I have never seen CB in a store. I got mine last year from Contrary Mary online. Here it is sprouting now

Picked up 2 Bartzella in 3 gallon containers today at my local Costco for 29 each! Get them before they are gone!

Laura, wow!! That’s a great price! I was at a local nursery recently and saw Bart in a 1-gallon pot for $65 which was the cheapest I’d ever seen it potted. :) My original 3 bare roots all made it through the cold and are growing nicely...but since I wasn’t sure at first whether they’d survive it, I hedged my bets and picked up two more boxes of the bare roots. :) All but one of those roots took off, so now I have 8 plants growing!

Totoro, I’m really excited to see your picture - the bare roots I bought weren’t labeled so I have no way of knowing which are Bartzella and which are Canary Brilliant until they bloom next year (hopefully), so I planted the first batch of three with no idea. One of them in particular, I’m really hoping is CB; it’s planted under an arbor and while either variety would be fine there, the colors of CB would look especially spectacular with the other stuff planted there. Based on your photo, I think it might be! (It has the same purple-toned foliage; most of the others were more green from day 1). Now I may be able to actually tell between them, and plant the remaining ones accordingly! Thanks for sharing. :)

Saw Bartzella along a path at Biltmore Estates in Asheville, NC a few years ago. Wasn’t going to,pay over $100 via mailorder. Happened to visit a Home Depot 2 years ago & saw them in containers for $65! Bought 1, it bloomed & in late summer moved it to its permanent home where I had a shrub. At the Biltmore, these plants were 4’ X 4’! I was told I might set it back a year with no buds since I moved it in late August. This year, it came up & I see buds on it! I did a happy dance! Can’t wait to see them!

Bartzella seems to be a very vigorous plant. I have older plants that are half the size, but those are herbaceous ones. I moved my Bartzella at one point, apparently did not get all of it so moved the piece I left behind the next year, but still left a piece behind. Traded the larger piece for a Cora Louise last fall. Of course, now I have at least 2 more from my Lowe' purchase. The foliage at first looked a little different on 1, more purple, but now I can not tell the difference. I will be very disappointed if one is not canary brilliant
