virus causes offsetting?

Does anyone have any experience with mosaic virus causing a bulb to offset wildly or split up? I have an Amaryllis belladonna and an Ismene 'sulphur queen' that are both starting to show symptoms of virus. Both of these bulbs also seem to be abnormally prolific in splitting up with the result being many small shoots emerging from the bulb vs one or a few larger shoots. I'd like to know if the two things are related or not or just a weird coincidence (I know for sure that neither bulb has bulb flies in it).

Thank you!
