Do you Remember this Seedling?

I can't find my original post though I have searched for it. So I'll repost the photos here of the original seedling. I cut off the bottom of the little obseum and sealed it with super glue, stuck it to a disk, and replanted it right away.

Then a little over a month later, maybe at around 5 or 6 weeks, I checked it and it had roots started growing. Mind you this seedling had been germinated the autumn before so it was still very small but had hardened off a bit over winter dormancy.

So, here is a photo of the same seedling today, after the rest of the summer went by after having the bottom chopped off. Predictably it didn't grow a lot it's first summer since it had to redirect so much of it's energy into making new roots instead. As it is a throw-away extra seedling I'm only interested in using it for experiments and grafting.

Fattened up, started another branch, and produced roots that I already trimmed back once for more branching. From the bottom you can see that one section still hasn't made roots so I scraped it and dusted it with rooting hormone, trimmed back the small black spot of rot on that one thick root tip, sealed with super glue and repotted with a larger disk beneath to spread the roots out sideways more. Not a bad start.

And I'll update it again at a later date. This seedling failed to take a graft last spring so I'll use it for another grafting attempt later this summer. I know the parent plant is a common pink.

I do remember this one. I think it worked out rather well. Question - what do you use for the disk on the bottom?

With your other post “seedling update” did you place a disk on the bottom of that one or did you just use super glue and then potted?

The disk is simply a plastic lid for a cottage cheese container that went into the recycling bin, trimmed down with scissors.

The larger seedling has no disk beneath the cut. It was sealed with super glue, allowed to dry a few minutes, then potted up. I will need to transfer it to a larger pot for the summer anyway after our final relocation so I can decide at that time what I want to do with it. I have some nice 5 inch shallow pan pots but they are in storage and hard to get to atm.

Hyn, could you provide the link to the previous post where we've seen your seedling the first time, please? I remember the first photo, but couldn't find that post. Question: on the first photo under your thum I see like a scar around the seedling. What is it? Thanks. Polina.

I couldn't find the post either. I searched all of my posts in the Adenium forum but even after going through every one of them, it wasn't there. I don't know if the post was lost or deleted, or I just couldn't find it. If anyone else can find it, you are very welcome to send me the link or post it here.

The seedling was originally grafted. That seam line is from this earlier photo.

But for some reason I didn't mark the pot with what it was grafted with and I don't remember if the graft worked or failed. I did carefully mark my others but this one is a NOID.

So I plan to either re-graft it again or I can let it grow and bloom, then try to ID which plant it was grafted with. The original seedling root stock was a Mr. Ko Super Yellowleaf, but of course none of those seedlings came out variegated and are presumed to merely have pink flowers.

Also you can get a growth 'ring' like that when you cut a branch tip and a side bud takes over with new growth later, so if my memory serves the original graft failed. As I forgot to mark this particular pot, I don't remember for certain which it is now.
