Kitchen Layout Software

I am looking for something I can use to figure out how to layout cabinets. I have a tricky space and want to be able to iterate on it.

If you can’t do it on graph paper, software won’t help. It’s the brain behind the tool, not the tool, that you need. That brain is a Kitchen Designer.

I like design software, but IMO graph paper really is the best.

2020 is industry standard. But if you don’t want to drop 6K on it and the computer to run it, hire a KD who already has it and who has done thousands more remodels than you.

The area I am working on involves re-locating a sink to a bay window. it has some detail that is hard to capture on graph paper and iterating would be slow.

If it's difficult to draw on graph paper, it probably won't be any easier for you in software that you're not familiar with.

My husband uses Sketch-up. I gave up on it long ago. The Ikea planner is easy for me, but if there's a way to draw bay windows or anything other than rectangles and L shapes I haven't stumbled upon it.

getting the walls drawn is definitely going to be the hard part. the bay has 5 walls some very short. The proximity to one of the room corners presents a challenge as well.

I use Sketchup. It has a steep learning curve for making multiple 3-d objects like individual cabinets that can be resized or rotated. But it does allow complete customization to precise dimensions.

If you decide to try it, watch youtube tutorials to get started. When you start using it, create a template that represents your constraints: walls, windows, doors, chases, etc., and save that as a separate template before you start adding cabinets or other "new" elements.

ETA: To reinforce what's already been said, starting with graph paper (if you haven't already) will illustrate to you whether you have the abstract visualization capability to use software to plan your ideas. Not everyone has that ability.
