would this be suitable for shade in KY

I have a bed the same shape and size but would like a little more color. instead of the ligularia I might like a shrub with color. any suggestions. Also would a variegated red twig dogwood fit in this garden?

Yes, I believe you would be able to apply this planting scheme to your shady location in Kentucky. In regards to a shrub alternative to the Ligularia, you may want to consider a Hydrangea or a Rhododendron. Good luck!
