Where do I start?

This is my little house. Originally, it had a wood exterior, but a previous owner bricked over. It has very little eave and my roof has a low slope. I am working on the inside, but the outside needs some, (well maybe a lot), of sprucing up. I plan on cleaning the brick and painting the trim, shutters and door. By the way, the door is recessed about 2 feet, so I want to either paint the door or replace it with something eye-catching. The yard will have to be landscaped, because it has sat untended for awhile. I would appreciate any helpful comments. It's my first home and I am so proud of it, but I just don't know where to start. Thank you.

I like it! A classic. You will need bigger coach lights on either side of the door, but add those after the power washing. Take a picture further back to show the drive way and landscaping on the edges of the house. It looks like you need a better walkway. The bushes look serviceable so don't pull them out.

So odd that you don’t have any roof overhangs...is it because of the brick? Is brick that thick?

I think it is because of the brick placed over the board. The brick is average thickness, Still, though, I don't have much overhang at all. It does make the house look different. But, I have to work with it.

Thank you, tqtqtbw. There is little to no landscaping to the sides. I have two maple trees in the front yard and a few azaleas to the left side of the house. The flowerbeds are in dire need of attention. I think the pavers need to go and a walkway leading to the front entrance would be more attractive. Any suggestions on color. Currently, the door and shutters are a very dark green. I think the entrance looks gloomy.

I think power washing the brick would make a huge difference. maybe a fresh coat of paint on the window trim, shutters and door. I thought the lights were a little small and you could use something a little bigger for lighting. Maybe a stair railing?

Thank you, Ms. Stutzman. The lights will be replaced. The existing ones are brass finish. Would you stay with that finish? I hadn't thought about a railing, but that is a great idea.

Thank you, NancyD. It's very small at 1100 square feet. But for me, that's ok. I love the picture. I can see what a tremendous difference it would make to add that feature. I like the landscape too.

you could really use any finish you like but I'm partial to black. if the window trim was white it would be a nice contracts. Maybe navy shutters?

I like the muted blue color that shows on the screen for your existing color. Black is a classic for the shutters. Since your door is set back, pick a bright color to highlight that area.

Here is an side shot of an inspiration: add a peak roof above your door with white columns, white trim, black shutters, happy yellow front door. (I didn't see a front shot of the space.) I also like the black classic pots.

Tqtgtbw, I love your comments. They are so helpful and appreciated. I am excited about the peak roof. It will truly transform the house's appearance. Now, to find someone to do the work, Thank you again!

This is a very handsome house. It reminds me of an old English converted stable or something. Bigger lamps and tall potted plants alongside the door and you’re done.

Thank you, jpp221. I am enjoying the remodeling process. I agree, bigger lamps and tall plants will really finish the look! Thanks you for your encouraging words.
