I would tackle the triple window on the front. Get rid of the arch and select a much larger triple unit that aligns with the window on the front of the garage.

I like your brick. An architectural shingle would add more texture.

Any ideas on color that goes with brick?

For interest and to break the bland front of the area around the garage, install a pergola as wide as the entry and running from there all the way across the garage. I agree that the little arch window needs to be removed. Replace the ground floor windows so they match the ones on the garage wing. I'd take out any hedge or shrub that doesn't bloom. Put a bigger house number out where the flag is. Hire a landscape architect to plan something you can install yourselves over the next few planting seasons. Pick a paint color for the siding from the brick or mortar.

Scroll through all the photos…the siding is not as tan as yours...

Nice home and yard. Applause for leaving the shade tree.

You have two large spans of rock -- one at the end of the garage that the shrubs might eventually help soften as they grow in height. For the other space -- the one between the windows on the right wing of the house, there is concrete and not enough planting space suitable for a hedge. Consider adding a single large exterior metal art piece to your exterior wall there:

If you're interested in structural changes to your home, consider extending the back half of the roof over the garage (back of the double windows) with its current slope to create a front porch. This would take up part of your driveway.

Depending upon your planting zone, consider outlining your driveway on both sides with a suitable plant to soften the look of so much rock/concrete/stone.

I'm in Zone 7 and my Liriope has stayed green all winter long. The Liriope is the short plant with the blooms in front of the shrubs:

You might add a short "wall" (in light with your front exterior wall) to hide your heat/ac unit and also have a place for any trash cans (or whatever else that is by your front entrance). Two posts and a 4'x8' lattice -- vertically or horizontally (depending upon your property line) would work. You could add hinges and make the "wall" a gate.

That brown is a remarkably dreary color. I'd find a light cream or very light gray that goes with the stone. Possibly a bluish-gray. Then I'd pick a darker shade for the trim. I think it would make everything pop.

Then I'd put some landscaping in.

Are those clerestory windows that I see boarded up on the angled portion of the roof? Those speak to a modern aesthetic. I would go in that direction. Lose the arched window in the front, and strip off all “faux colonial” bits and bobs, including the window grids. A modern front door would help, too.

The windows have screens on them that were painted the same color as the house. Not sure why -- they don't open, so it's not like bugs would get in.

I like the idea of modernizing. I'm going to check out those grids tomorrow, if I can get them out, they are gone right away. I'll talk with my husband about diy for the arch window.

What about a darker color and white trim? Should garage stay siding color?

I'm going to add a mulching, and a flowering bush beside the boxwoods this week. It feels like something is missing, like the old bush does and it just got removed. Near the front door, that is 2 chairs and a small table. We keep trash in garage.
