Best organic soil for raised beds

last modified: 8 years ago

I am replacing all of the soil in my raised beds this year as I've been growing tomatoes in the same location for 15 years and no matter how much amending I do, that soil is just tired. I only grow tomatoes here so I need something that's best suited for that. I want to use an organic mix that has a coco coir base. I live in Los Angeles, so the summers are very hot and dry and the soil tends to follow suit. Coco coir is the best medium I've found for holding moisture. I've been looking at the garden mixes from E.B. Stone and from Fox Farm. Fox Farm (coco loco) looks really nutrient rich, but it's expensive! E.B. Stone is less expensive, but I've been told they changed their formula recently and their not as good as they used to be. Any recommendations for great organic bagged planting mix?
