I can't resist pointing out that all "soil" is organic but if you are referring to a certified "organic" soil-less potting mix then many brands are available. You will still have to supplement minerals and nutrients of course.

However most find the $$ cost of going that route prohibitive when it comes a raised bed of any size. There are any number of previous discussions here about "best or favorite" raised bed fill and in most cases a simple blend of peat, top soil, and compost is the common go-to method. The next best alternative is to purchased a bulk quantity of quality landscaping mix. Lastly, existing soil can always be revitalized with staged doses of a high quality compost.

Coco coir has its advocates but it also has its detractors, its problems, so I'd encouraged you to not go overboard with its use lest you make your problems worse.

Dave, thanks for fielding this! I think I've answered this question so many times over my many years on GardenWeb that I feel I should have it engraved somewhere :-) One would hope it is included in a FAQ somewhere but precisely which forum that might be is a mystery. And sadly, many of the FAQ's seem to have vanished since the latest acquisition.

I would only add that peat is an option depending on how acidic - or not - your garden soil or topsoil may be. I would put it in the same category as the coir for many of the same reasons.

What are your symptoms of "tired" soil? Is there some evidence that nutrients have been used up? Have you done a soil test? If there is a nutrient deficiency, there are plenty of ways to fix that.

That's an old adage, about tired soil, and it's a result of the same crop (in the SE U.S., cotton, in particular) being planted over and over on it. I can imagine large farms having depleted soil that is not easily fixable, but raised beds are another matter.

I'm not sure an organic raised bed is the way to go. I think you need a clay base for any good soil, all those minerals are very important. I think if one adds good compost (plant based) and some high organic matter fertilizer (like cow) it should be good.

Now the thing is how the clay base is. I saw soils that are more calcium based or more magnesium based, and that can affect which varieties will do well in one or the other (mg and ca are competitors). pH is also important. From my experience the Ca based soils seem to be better for tomatoes, even if they can be a bit high in ph (over 7). From 6 to 7.5 pH should be just fine.
