help with paint colors

An interior decorator suggested the paint colors. I like the colors...maybe not all of them together. It's not flowing for me. Thoughts?

I would either use the blue or the brownish color though out. Personally I like the blue, but would lighted it up a shade. There is a big difference between an interior decorator and an interior designer. All you have to do to be a decorator is print up business cards. A designer has training and is usually accredited.

Its nuce to see something fresh and trendy - the pop of orange with the B&W works with the tan and light blue and white.

IMHO the issue is the sofa - it is too big. Can you get a new one? Something more trendy. If not, cover it with a white slip cover and add colorful pillows which will help to tie all your elements together.

Use the same paint color for the walls throughout and add the other color via throw pillows and/or other accessories.

There's so much brown in the house we wanted to break it up with the blue, but I think it's too bright and not a clean break from the tan walls. The blue paint won't work in the dark kitchen. Our kitchen, dining and living room is all one room

I agree that furniture would make a difference as well

    any suggestions for door color?

Seeing more of your space I think white would be a great color for the walls and door. Door in the white of the trim. Walls in a lovely smokey white:

It will brighten up the kitchen and blend the two areas together. Right now they look like different houses! The white will let your lovely colors be the star!

I love the pale blue and the orange pops in the bookcase, but I feel like the golden tan is fighting it all - it's too saturated. I would continue the blue into the entryway space. If you think the blue is too bright, then rawket girl has some good options for you.

At this point in the design process, stop and think: do I want to continue the funky thing that is going on right now and finesse it or do I want to tone things down.

IMHO the door is a cool element that connects both sides of the room - I like it but do you? If you keep that, then consider moving the boat shelving as it competes with the vibe of the funky door. What is on the floor in the entry? Beige tile? If so, cover it up with a funky orange rug - check out FLOR carpet tiles for this area.

The beach scene in the living room is too timid and too small.

Switch out the curtain in the kitchen to something more trendy that will help connect the kitchen to the living area.
