Live. It's our first home purchase. I am 23 years old so we bought a fixer upper

What's your favourite colour? Lots of different things would look good. Teal, navy, brick red, grey, sunny yellow... I always like saturated colours on this style of house.

What colors do you like? I think you can go any way you please. I personally love bright, punchy colors for smaller houses, but a nice tan or cream would look great as well.

I like the idea of doing a bright color. I typically gravitate towards greys and blues

someone mentioned the robins egg blue,,,that's pretty on a house like this.

if you don't like coral for the door, we could do a darker blue

in the photo of the after, they substituted some shakes for the portion near the roof. easily done on yours too. you could do some cedar shakes

another option is black and white, like this one,,,

only add the cedar shake to peaked portion where you have siding (bad photo shop!)

would look nice w/the cedar porch and posts you want to do. Black/white/cedar and a bright door,,,,perfect!

With wood porch posts, you might consider either a dark green or a light brown -- tan but without any pink or yellow hue: any "natural" color.

Enlarge the existing shed roof to cover enough depth to make the floor of your new front porch at least 6' deep with about a 16" overhang beyond the floor, making plenty of room for your to set a row of chairs and/or planters while leaving plenty of room to walk in front of and/or between them across the porch.

Use the extended shed roof all the way across the entire front of the home -- begin at the left side of the roof of the house and end at the right side of the roof over the garage -- except --

1. Do add a forward facing gable spanning the area between the windows -- (about 8' wide ?}-- above the front door and above the blank wall beside the door -- your entrance and what will become the focal point of the front of your home. This will give you covered access from the garage to the porch and to the front door.
2. Create a hip corner at each end of the shed roof would provide a more classic and finished look.

You could even wrap the roof around half the side of the home if you needed to create a cover for an outdoor closet to affix to the side of the house for yard tools.

Sherwin Williams sw 7660 Earl Grey w/ a farmhouse red door you should modernized your windows w/ Georgian style windows another great feature no matter if its going on the market or this will be you're home you should really think about the future curb appeal is important, give this home a inviting feeling to draw you or potential buyers to say hey i can see me and or my family living here by adding a covered porch big enough for seating, a nice manicured landscaping that has low maintenance and mulch lastly randomly place some light to medium colored boulders in the garden

ideally with doors just like this or if u prefer more privacy then change the style of the door but still give it some natural light because you want to remember to make the entry a very inviting feeling to buyers and of course the people making this house a home!

You said you like blue, I would stain in the medium tones. If you pick a light shade, it won’t show the contrast of the porch and grass. The will stand on its own.

May your new house be filled with happiness and wonderful memories. Take your time, choose YOUR favorite colors, do your homework and don’t go into debt. I was only 18 and my husband was 21 when we bought our first home. It looked very similar to your new home. We had very little money but we made it our own. When we sold it, the listing agent referred to it as an “adorable doll house.” It sold very quickly back in the 1980’s. Don’t be overwhelmed or discouraged by TOO much advice from the professionals. Spend your money wisely, figure out YOUR priorities and enjoy the process of making this house YOUR HOME. Good luck!

played around w/the siding along the front, also gave you bronze windows and more of a modern door.

yellow door. you really need to remove the shutters on the one window.

If you want to do a little portico and redo the steps,,make it like this w/a path through the grass. do the mulch area around your tree and plant flowers under your windows

or you could do something like this for your porch. I like the cedar siding on it and the little arbor. You could paint the siding white, the trim black, and do those cedar shakes on the peaked portion. get a 3-glass lite door like is pictured here and you would have an updated cottage house.

Congrats on your new home! With this being your first, I would make a list of your must-haves or repairs for the interior and exterior. From there you can add your wishlist items and splurge when you have additional funds available. (Always plan to spend extra money then what you originally budget, since surprises always spring up.) Back to your original question . . . I would make minor changes -- change the exterior door to better fit the look of the home. Paint it a blue color that you like, since it will look cute and be a nice accent with the yellow siding color. Revamp the landscaping and add additional plantings. You can also buy some updated address numbers. These are inexpensive updates, but they will definitely update the look. Have fun with it!
