I don't know about you all, but I have been missing all the beautiful pictures everyone has been posting. It's been several days since the last update. I know those of you who grow in the south don't have daylilies yet but can't wait to see them when they begin. We won't have our first blooms until May when dumortieri blooms and then in June the rest will start. However, we get a jump on the season because we have a small heated greenhouse where we overwinter a few tender ones. One of the first to bloom is Tom Adams. This is actually the second flower, but we missed the first one a couple of days ago. Of course, some pollen when on Tom. We get really good seed set in the greenhouse.

Signet, our greenhouse is heated. Bob grows a lot of tropicals--bromeliads, gingers, hibiscus, etc. We even have a tea rose in there. Bob put it in to overwinter and the roots grew into the ground, so it has been in there for many years. We have trouble getting the temperatures high enough for super tropicals even though there are two gas heaters. It is 8 by 20 with polycarbonate covering. It's not pretty but it does the job. It's amazing how well daylilies will set seed in a greenhouse. Here's a picture of it.

How pretty! So good to see more blooms. I have had Dumortieri bloom as early as April 10-just one year, usually closer to the end of April. Not particularly fond of it, but I have to keep it for those early blooms. Going to go look up stats on your Tom Adams, really pretty red.

AAAAHHHHHHHHHH ! Thanks for the share HoosierNan! I was going through withdrawal , missing seeing colorful blooms. Please continue to share......it will be quite a while before we see any blooms up here in southern Ontario Canada. Is your greenhouse heated? Mine is not and I know I would not be seeing any blooms even if I had plants in there right now .

Hi Nancy, it doesn't have to be fancy to do the job. Looks great to me . Mine is a hoop house just covered in plastic so not nearly as sturdy as your polycarbonate walls but it too will do the job ......just not over winter .I suppose I could install a wood stove but for the most part I just use it to start my veggies and bedding plants. The daylilies go directly into the ground .
