I see on HMF that “Yesterday” should be pink, while this one is more red. It’s a raspberry red, and I can’t find a single thorn on it. Below is the rose they sent me labeled, “Yesterday”. It’s not very pink looking. I’ve determined that they are different. The one labeled “Yesterday”, has lots of tiny bristles on the stems, while the mystery rose does not. Thanks.

Thank you Paul. I’d be thrilled to have ‘Oakington Ruby’. I noticed your comment late last night, and went searching for info on it. You can guess where I ended up! I really enjoyed reading about Mr. Moore’s breeding with it. So far, I’ve been pleased with my mystery roses from RVR. The other was that once blooming dark red moss that you ID’d as ‘Old Red Moss’. I gave it a permanent spot in the ground this past fall, and I’m eager to see it bloom again. Thanks for the help. I’ll pot this one up, and give it a bit more room. Lisa

You're welcome. I'll be surprised if it turns out to be something else. I like it a lot - its like a tiny 'Slater's Crimson', but if you let it build on itself (like many Chinas) it will eventually build to four by four feet. At that size, it truly excels. Lucky you!

Nice, Paul! I didn’t realize it could grow so large. Maybe I could plant it out in the garden then, instead of keeping it potted?

Do you have any thoughts about the rose labeled ‘Yesterday’? It’s the last photo I posted. It’s much redder than any of the pictures I see of it on HMF.

BTW, I didn’t realize there was a difference between ‘Red Moss’ and ‘Old Red Moss’. Since RVR only carries ‘Red Moss’ (Henri Martin), that’s my other mystery rose, that you identified last spring. Knowing what I know about the variety after growing several for 18 years, I would definitely suggest a place in the garden, rather than in a pot. It will perform much better in the ground.

About 'Yesterday': I've never grown it, and as far as I know, have never seen it either, so I cannot comment on that one, sorry.
