Jane, your aggravation looks beautiful!. Well grown...

Jane, it is beautiful! I must check my plant one more time before I give up on seeing blooms. Aggravation is right!

Yes, one of the most aggravating!

Sheila, yours should be spiking by now .

    I'm so jealous...

Mine is plumping-up and growing roots again but no spikes. It is producing what appears to be a new growth, so I'll watch that closely hoping I'm wrong.

But I feel it was another wasted year with this plant. I had lots of new growth, repotted in summer while growing new p-bulbs and left coolish, dry and bright for months this winter. Not sure I'll waste the time this coming year if there are no spikes/flowers to enjoy, I need the space and life is too short for the 'aggravation'.

    Good growing Jane,

I agree, Bob. It should be spiking by now.

It is a difficult plant to grow indoors. Not sure why.

    You did everything right.

It seems to like growing outside, strong light and neglect. That's what its getting here. I truly forget about it. Rarely fertilize.

The photos of your plant looked so much healthier than mine. There is just some cultural glitch that's off and might not be possible to correct growing indoors.

Do you know anyone growing these indoors over winter? Did they get blooms? Ask at your OS and find out how they are growing this plant.

When I saw your photos, I thought you would have 10 or more spikes. Looks so healthy.

I would love to know how growers up north get them to bloom.

Hang in there. It might be waiting for a chance to get outside. I would move it outside as quickly as you can. They can take mid 30's -low 40's. Mine did.

    Jane,

4"+ of snow yesterday with temps in the low 20's this morning in west-central Ohio. I'll have to wait at least another week or so :(

Speaking of snow and cold, with the 4 nor'easters this winter I bet you really miss NY :)

Lol! I do miss NY in the Spring.

I’ll wait for May to visit family. My daughter keeps sending pics of her yard covered in snow (she lives in Ct.). “Mom, don’t you miss the snow?”

I tell her her pics suffice while I’m tending my vegetable garden!

Hang in there, Bob. March is almost gone

I grow mine in a west window in the house, mounted on a stick. It is a faithful bloomer. Starting in November, I cut back water and only water it about once every 7-9 days compared to watered daily in summer when in growth. I notice mine only blooms on 2-year old growths. I usually only get 1-2 spikes of flowers during a bloom period, but mine is still a small plant. It is in spike now.

    whwo,

    Where do you live/what zone?

I'm 'considering' putting mine in a 6" slatted basket this spring and see what happens next spring. Maybe, one more year of aggravation ???

    Thanks,
