What type of hardwood is this?

Most likely a dark stained oak, probably with an ebony stain.

It looks like those new ceramic tiles...

The Floor is a pre finished engineered hardwood floor by Ernest Hamingway.
This is the Ketchum Collection, in the River Walnut Stain.

The width is 4 3/4" by 4 feet.

be careful with some of the inferior versions of wood-looking, ceramic tile planks! the glaze is very week until grouted. All it takes is a boot or high heel to chip! I recommend the color-body porcelain ones though.

The floor is real hardwood floor, and it is not porcelain tile that looks like hardwood floors.
As for your comment, i have never seen ceramic tile that looks like hardwood floors.

Ceramic is a very purest material that is used for wall applications only!(lust like subway tile).
Since it's body is very soft material, and will chip if you put it on the floor.

As for the wood looking tile, it is made out of porcelain, which has been cooked in big ovens in thousands of degrees, which turns it into one of the most durable and strongest material on Earth.

Definitely stronger then any stone beside diamond.

There is no need to make a comparison to real hard wood floors, it is just different.

If you have pets and you don't want to buff the hardwood floors and stain it every year because your dog scratched it, or If you have a rental unit or vacation home in Tahoe, that you want to rent out and eliminate the wear and tear, it would be wise to use it.

It will give you the hardwood floors look without the maintenance.

Also, if you want to create a contemporary look, by using the same floor inside all the way to the outside pool area, it will give you a beautiful flow, and it would look sharp, clean and very esthetic.

And again, NO maintenance!

There are many ceramic/porcelain tiles that have a wood floor theme, some of the new ones are fantastic.

I've only heard of "real wood floors" and never "real wood looking tile floors" . Just a thought.

Correct, the only REAL wood, is REAL WOOD. :) "wood-looking, ceramic tile planks" were my exact words. I do prefer porcelain over ceramic tile, however....there are many different grades of tile. Ceramic FLOOR TILE is suitable for foot traffic. As I've learned, you want a good color-body porcelain to stand up to ultimate traffic. To all Wood Flooring Installers....I absolutely love what you do! Keep up the great work!

....and I agree that we are most likely looking at tiles in the above photo! lol
