Did you get the other pictures you were talking about? Of the mother plant?

Well we got hit last Tuesday. First time we got it bad. Mostly it blows south and east of Pittsburgh but this time we got it. We got highs in the 30's and low 40's now so most is gone. I was waiting to bring my plants out of the basement and clean them up before taking pictures but I just got them today for you guys.

You can see a little bit of odd twisting in that second picture. It almost looks as if it doesn't know what it wants to do.

Just my luck, when I find an odd ball with promise, it dies. so far so good. It is strong growing (meaning fat and thick leaves). It is just so darn slow. It had a burst of speed when I first cut from the mother plant but so far nothing. Maybe when I bring it outside with the real sunlight.

So, I got a chance to drive around and look for plants yesterday. I went out to a somewhat local greenhouse and found this guy, oddly enough, right after your post. Definitely not a big box purchase, but the owner of the greenhouse doesn't even know the names of half of what he has.

He said that every time he sees a new type of Sans, he buys it and tries to increase his numbers on them. He doesn't have a lot of varieties, (tri. Laurentii, tri. Robusta, Moonshine, Hahnii Silver Marginata, Golden Hahnii) but he said that his business partner bought, from what I could ascertain, a Bantel's Sensation... I'm anxiously waiting for him to get divisions off of it for the greenhouse.

Hopefully this one stays true. I noticed that the taller clumps had more variegation, so I was hoping that it'll stay.

I purchased mine at Lowe's. It is S. trifasciata Futura 'Gold flame'. A sport of Futura 'Compacta'. Seems the older the plant gets, the more yellow it produces in it's inside part of it's leaves. Young plants usually don't show much yellow.

Rob, you say where your from. If in the U.S. I can send you a pup of Bantal's Sensation come late spring when I bring them out of my basement. Laws are funny exporting plants and most forbid it.

I'm actually located in NC. Although I appreciate the offer, I might have to wait on it, I'm starting to acquire too much. As for your oddly variegated find, is it variegated on the front and back of the leaf or just one side? The reason I ask is that the one I showed is only on the inside facing of the leaf. I not sure how highly variegated Sans display that?

I find one sided variegation common on 'Gold Flame'. Just the edges are variegated on both sides. Now my strange pup is highly variegated on both sides. Same with 'Lillian True' and a lot of the other variegated types.

I'm in the process of re-establishing my 'Gold Flame' due to two years ago outside over watered and neglect. Almost lost them all due to crown rot. They are responding very well now.

It's funny you mention Gold Flame. I saw that variety when I was searching for information on influencing variegation. When I saw it, I thought about the purchase I just made. I'll just continue to keep an eye on it and see how it progresses. I'm starting to collect a nice group of plants that I need to watch and see what will happen. I actually have a Fairy Castle cactus that has a sport on it that I might just separate this year and root it up. I guess the more plants you obtain, the more likely you'll be to eventually see something new come from them.
