Quiet around here?

It seems like it's become pretty quiet around here. Do you think people are people drifting away because of the Houzz issues?

If someone does take on the chore of a new startup for us, may I suggest GW Redux? GW or , better yet, Gardenweb in the title would help us find our way there. Allison, I'm hoping you'll continue your pad rents house project. Yes, I mostly read and rarely post.

    Oops...posts of parents house redo.

Allison, echoing martinca, I hope the thread you're referring to isn't the one about your remodel of your parents' house. It's amazing to see the changes.

It's going to require someone(s) who is/are willing to set up the format and continue on as moderators. I haven't looked at the host site Alison recommended but the ones I used in the past are pretty self explanatory and don't require a computer geek to set up so I assume this would be the same.

I don’t post a lot, but, I too would miss everyone!

I never post on this side but I’ve been a member and poster on the decor side for years and years. I posted on kitchens during my remodel and have searched the forums hundreds of times to mine the limitless trove of information in all of the forums. I also didn’t come around as much when H took over, because the interface was so bad and confusing and I just wanted to find the actual GW forums. I truly hope they don’t ruin this part of the site, because it’s the only reason I ever visit H, and I have ended up searching their images a few times for ideas—only came upon them because of GW.

I would miss this too, but I do wish we could move to another host. I've never been a fan of Houzz. I lurked for years on Gardenweb and just started joining in discussions a few years before Houzz ruined it. But I keep hanging around.

DLM, my last and only experience with setting up a forum was a Yahoo Group about 15 years ago when my kids were little : ) .

I just wanted to say I'm another who misses the old GW. It was a daily ritual for me to check in. I so enjoyed so many decorating projects that played out there...Pipdog, Tinker2010, Mtnrdredux, and so many more. The decorating advice was always interesting, inspired good dialog and the site was so easy to navigate.

The move to Houzz has changed everything. I so miss what we all had. If there is a move in the works to bring back the old GW, please keep me in the loop.

I'm worried that everyone will leave for somewhere and I won't know where.

The same concerns are being raised on another post HERE. I made this comment towards the bottom of the thread - I'd like to suggest that one person or maybe two be the email keeper(s) - we would private message our email address so that if someone steps up to make a new site as a backup or this one suddenly going poof before a new one is made, there will be a way to notify those who want to be notified. Make sense?

I've started a list just in case. Hoping to check out the website Alison mentioned to see what's involved in getting a new site set up but not sure when I'll get to it.

DLM, I just messaged you my email address. Thank you : ) .

DLM - thanks for starting a list of emails. I just sent you mine too. I check in here and the Kitchen Table daily and often pop into Kitchens and Appliances. Occasionally I'll look at the Home Decorating forum but I just don't recognize many names any more.

We all need a place to convene when I actually own my new house!

I will also send my email to DLM.

I just emailed mine I just want to mention that I used to frequent Smaller Homes.

It used to be a group that happened to live in homes under a certain square footage.

Like Home Deco Conversations, many things were shared and discussed, not just smaller home issues and challenges.

Well, I no longer recognize any of the participants. I think with the Houzz changes many couldn't find their way back.

It has become, I guess what it was actually intended for, smaller home challenges and issue. It is no longer a tight-knit personal space.

DLM can I send you my email too? please and thank you?

Would someone let me know where we’re going? My ouz messaging should be on.

Just so you all know I haven't even looked at the ProBoards site that Allison recommended yet. No idea what would be involved in setting up a new group there and as long as this place is working I don't think it's necessary - agreed? There are at least a few people I know of here who are far more computer savvy than I am so maybe a few of us could work on this together. The worry is that this conversation side might go away and I suppose that's possible but the regular decorating side will not disappear (unless H disappears) so there will always be a way to post a message to GW peeps about a change. For now I have a running list of email addresses with screen names. I have a lot of company coming in and out for the next 5 weeks and likely won't have a chance to work on a new site but can't imagine we'll need it anyway. But something to think about in advance is IF this all comes to pass, how do you want to get the word out to GW peeps that there is a new site? Who will 'get the keys' to the new place? Who makes that decision? Me? no. A committee? Who's on it? All stuff to think about. And as I keep saying, hopefully just a precaution.

DLM I just sent you my contact info.

Agreed it's not necessary at this time, but always good to have an option.

DLM, I just sent my info. Thank you.

DLM, just sent you my email address. I read the banned blog and I was floored by the brazen predatory tactics! Are interior designers really that naive to have let it go on for this long?!

Where do I send my info - for future reference if needed.

Would someone please explain how to send an email to DLM, many thanks.

Eileen, click on DLM’s profile pic (the little round image to the left of her name) and it will bring up her profile and you’ll see an option to message her.

DLM, thanks for taking this on. Yes, I think you can count on all of us to help where needed.

This has become a very important community for all of us. I for one have looked at other sites but they run very short.

I just sent my info to DLM. Thank you very much.

Sadly, forums are a dying breed. I've set up and managed a ProBoards site before. If you all get to that breaking point, I could start up a new site. I'll give DLM my email address.

The Kitchen Table already has an off site board set up for “just in case.”

Bluebell, are you talking about The KT Gathering Place?

    Party_music That's great!

Eld6161, they do have the Gathering Place, but there is also a board set up at freeforums as a backup. No activity to speak of, but I bet they’ll move there if there is a time where these old GW forums go kaput or change too much or have too much Big Brother activity.

When I participated in the Cooking Forum conversations (now gone) there was an attempt to set up an off-site chat room. It pretty much fizzled. Then there was a secret Facebook page. It got nasty, poking fun at other non-members. Then someone laughed at a Cooking Forum member whose son had died recently and that was enough for me. It may still exist but I was not interested.. I think it’s hard to keep these things going although the KT seems to be doing it. They are a particularly close knit group. Nevertheless if DLM wants to give it a try, I want to be part of it. Thanks.

I think I'm current on the list - if anyone sent me a message with their email and did NOT get a reply from me saying they were on the list, message me again. 3katz you can send me a message through Houzz with your email address.

I've found that groups don't always transition well to a new site but sometimes it does work and I'm part of 2 that originated on the old BHG bulletin boards back in '99 - yikes! Both moved initially to MSN which was a great fit till they did away with all private groups and it was a few years of bouncing around trying to find a new home. Some host sites were too big, some too complicated, some poorly run...... All we can do is cross that bridge if/when we get there.

Nutsaboutplants, thanks for your help but I’m still not seeing an option to email DLM. I’ve also checked Suebs, yours and mine and don’t see it either. All I see below her photo is : + Follow and then under that is All Ideabooks, Activity, Posts, Following and Followers. Checked my profile info and I don’t see an option to check on so........................ HELP! Thanks to anyone who takes pity on me! Eileen

eileen, you wouldn't be emailing DLM, you would be sending her a message via Houzz.

To do that, go to her page

    DLM2000

which looks like this at the top

and then click on the white "Message" button on the right under the Facebook and Twitter icons.

Becky, thanks for your help but the screen picture you sent is nothing like I have. There are not icons for FB or Twitter, doesn’t show that Houzz badge, etc. I’ll play around with my profile page and see if that may help. Thanks, Eileen

I just sent you a message, DLM. Thanks for taking this on!

DLM, I sent you my email again. And thanks again.

eileen, I'm on a Mac laptop if that helps you figure things out.

Becky, I’ll try that, right now I’m on an iPad, thanks.

Becky and DLM, You've Got Mail! I'm rarely on the Mac unless I'm paying bills or on our healthcare website or deleting emails. Thanks to everyone who helped me. I don't understand why it didn't work on my iPad though.

westsider I did get your first message and sent you a reply, also replied to the second one. Check your Houzz inbox - they should be there.

Ya I realized it’s missing some functionality on an iPad. I will send my info when I get back home to an actual computer.

i've been away for a while, but check in when I can. I don't post much, but would certainly miss this group. DLM, am sending my e-mail. Thanks!

    Sent a message, too.

Not looking to be left behind------I have messaged DLM as well.

    Sent a message, Deb.

    sent you mine too, DLM

Yeah, we tried ProBoards from the old Weight Watchers message boards, and that didn't go too well. There were some people who kept up but some groups who checked in sporadically like my group got lost.

I have a busy job that requires about 50 hours per week like funky said, lots of stuff going on. We have one more month in the semester and I am gearing up for an accreditation site visit, so anything home related is not on my radar at all. I can check in here, but I have no active projects going on. Really, nothing's going to happen here until mid-May.

I sent a message, mostly a lurker. I think I would tend to come out of my shell with a smaller more private group. Plus I love you guys!
