dining bench length

We recently got the Pottery Barn Benchwright dining table in the 74 inch length. We originally planned on getting 4 chairs and a bench, but found 6 black PB chairs at a consignment shop. Now the matching bench is on sale but the smallest size is 60 inches and it would not fit between the table legs to push it in. The distance between the legs is 52 inches. My question is, do we stick with the chairs? Or get the bench? Would it look bad if the bench does not fit between the legs? In the photos, we would put the bench on the left side (kitchen is to the right). We will be moving the bar cart that is against the wall.

CHAIRS!!! Benches are miserable to eat on for any extended period of time. As the hostess, you won't be stuck sitting on it!

If you cannot push the bench under the table, it is no good to you. The chairs look very nice.

The rug is too small. You need it to be 18" past the top of the table in order to pull out the chairs, sit down and be able to scoot it back in. If you pull the chairs out and they go off the rug, it is too small. It would be too small with a bench also.

Apparently, it is 24" on every side, not 18".

Nope no bench...benches are for picnic tables. there is no back and if you are stuck in the middle and want to leave the table you have to crawl over the back!
tDitch the rug...you con't need it, let the beautiful floors show.

Benches are uncomfortable. The chairs go well with your table.

Stick with the chairs. Someday if you ever choose to mix it up build a banquet on the wall.

No bench and the rug under the table is really just too small. It's a nice room that IMO would benefit from removing the rug.

I think your chairs look good with that table (and I'm anti-bench). And the rug looks too small.

Thanks everyone!! We just got the table last week so we haven’t addressed the rug yet :) but we will keep the chairs!

We have a farm table with a bench on one side and 3 chairs on the side--while I love the look of the bench, I totally agree with above posters. Chairs are so much easier and more comfortable.

i eventually may use the bench elsewhere, possibly in our sunroom or a playroom just to put all chairs at the table.
