Def. add a window like Kelly said. For a smaller child maybe a loft style bunkbed. you can add a curtain to the bottom and put a bean bag chair, small desk, reading drawing area, etc...Small dresser and maybe if room a bookcase.

Skylight or suntube, if you can. I added one to a bathroom with no windows and it made all the difference.

I'm not english, so I'll try to explain the best I can: It is not really our house, so we can't change the house plans. We haven't bought it. and there are more rooms, with windows, but they lead to a veranda, and the kid is really rebel and sometimes doesn't think about consequences, so it is safer for him to be in a room without a window, at least when he is still so young.

I am twelve years old and when I was a kid I always wanted an adventure room. Honestly I thought having a hammock in my room as my bed would be amazing. Fake plants would go with the theme. Hope it helps. Good luck!
