Console table or not ? Left or right ?

Hello experts,

I am seeking some advice on how to decorate my rather narrow hallway. Attached are some pictures of the space I have, the white shoe storage bench I ordered, the narrow hallway table I am unable to find and some ideas I can use.

Ideally we should have the console on the opposite side of where the door opens, but in my case, I feel that would make the hallway a bit conjusted. There is also a depression/corner on the RHS which is 95 cms long and 35 cms deep, where presently I have my peace lily. I was thinking of keeping a small hall table there with a mirror above it and just have some wall art/family photos on the LHS wall . Later on I could just add a runner and a pendant light and brighten up the space a bit. I already ordered a storage bench for where my shoe rack is presently so I cannot add another bench. Does this sound right ? Or would the small table on RHS look contrived ( already have a bench there ) and I should have it on the other side only ?

2. Or may be I can just ditch the console table and have floating display shelves on one side and a mirror and shelf on another ? As attached.

3. Whats the best material and style for a console table ( if I were to go with one ) . Should I go for the industrial one or regular wood or marble ?

4. Should the hallway table match the other furniture in the house in terms of color or style or legs ?

Appreciate all suggestions.

Thanks heaps.

What impression would you like your entry to give? The mirror/floating shelf is the most elegant look to me but I like a mirror and a decorative storage box for keys, in my entry. As you’ve ordered a shoe bench, I’d assume you need additional shoe storage, which you could get with a utilitarian rack, inside your closet. If you also want a bench to sit on, you could add one under the shelf, that can be pulled out as needed. The niche seems fairly deep so you could also install a somewhat deeper shelf.

Something like this, with a nice rug, would be quite elegant, if it works with your other decor, and the bench isn’t too deep:

Thank u phuninthesun and enjoythejourney. I already have another corner on the RHS for the shoe storage. Attached pic of the existing open shoe rack. I ve attached a picture of the white storage bench above that has space for shoes inside and a bench to sit on. I am planning on just adding some hooks above it for coats, keys, bags etc.

As for the impression, I d like to keep it interesting, yet elegant and uncluttered. Definitely a mirror to increase the light. I d love a small console table if I could squeeze that in so I can keep some plants/lamps/candles etc.

. Thats just opposite the door.

You could search “skinny white console table”. There are several options you might like. Here are a few that I found interesting or that are similar to your bench (the first one comes in white, the last one in white with a cement look top):

To me what you have now opposite the door looks cluttered. I'd remove that and put a piece of artwork or the plants that you speak of, then put the shoe storage in the cutout.

Yes shirlpp. It is an open shoe rack. I ve already bought a shoe cabinet for that corner. Attached pic 5 above.

Hanging bags etc are just too busy and messy. Do you need to sore shoes near ur front door? Cant u put them in ur closets in your bedroom along with ur bags, coats etc. things like this are just messy looking. Just my opinion. Its the first thing people see when they enter ur house or just stand at ur door and it can get messy.

look for a thin colsole with a shelf on bottom for baskets so if u have to store shoes u have a place for them.

Yes Sarah. Like I mentioned , I am gonna remove the open shoe rack and put in a white , closed shoe cabinet bench , like photo 4 in my original post above. It's just got the shoes that get wet in the rains and stuff. As for the hooks , I guess if am using the cut out for the console table , I d be left for no other place for hanging the coats except above the storage bench. Just some nice wall hooks will be fine. Am not gonna hang my stuff there all the time. It's for the guests too. ☺️

    Thanks all for your comments.

This is a good idea with the hooks above the console and I like how they've added the artwork. I'd put artwork above the storage bench.
