before you start you will need gather the following info some of it more important then others but all are helpful to have at hand before you start planning:

1. last spring frost date

2. first fall frost date.

3. number days total in growing season

4. measurements the proposed planting area

5 soil ph test of proposed planting area

6. soil nutrient test : N P K and organic matter % test of proposed planting area.

7. depth of soil before hard pan or subsoil

8. number of hours of sunlight during the growing season: 8 or more is best.

9. direction of north if are in the northern hemisphere and south if you live in southern hemisphere

10. find east where sun rises and west where sunset

11. list of vegetable you like to eat and would like to grow .
