Help with my conifer

Anyone know what could be wrong with this? Half the tree is dying. I don’t know the history but I bought this house and I love this tree off my porch

    It appears to be a Fir (Abies) and it is now dead or nearly so. Either way, it will not be recovering.

    I won’t speculate on the many things that might have contributed to its death.
