I've avoided tulips for years..years ago at my old house I planted red tulips..they were disappointing..but this article makes me want to try again..

I love tulip blooms. Too bad they bloom in and then in a heartbeat, it seems like they are gone. :-( I plan then dense though - literally , about 1 - 1 /2 inch apart.

I think the only drawback to this would be squirrels and whatnot. So far, no damage in my bulb beds, just short of where some leaves have not sprouted and there is lotsa exposed mulch - where the feral cats come in do their business.

Shallow just allows easier access. In my veg beds, literally, every 30 inches or so, I am find these 8 inch deep holes. Either it's rodents or what. Strangest thing, as these holes being made are so equidistant

Tulips are beautiful..if I try them and they "underwhelm" me again I'll ditch them in a heartbeat..lol

Campanula -

Wowser's. The tomatoes in both my veg and containers (just short of the lawn) is probably the heaviest waterd items in my garden in the summer. Can't fathom not watering during the peak months. Understood, sorta a tradeoff when planing in the same beds as bulbs

Nature does the watering here, a1an. Often too much.
