What species of wood is it, and what color stain does it have?

It is a birch with a dark java stain on it.

Get that cheepchinesecrapola firewood out of your house and buy something decent to replace it. Birch is a terrible wood for flooring. And a seconds and thirds retailer known for multiple unethical scams including violating the Lacey act and forging CARB II certifications is a poor choice for anything.

I'm curious why Birch is a poor choice for flooring??? We are in the same boat but we have hickory flooring from lumber liquidators and they have discontinued the color, we need about 325 more feet

Birch is softer and can dent quite nicely. I have no problems with it...but then again I like cork so I'm biased towards very soft hardwoods.

Go ahead and look for a hickory wood floor and have it site finished with an attempt to match the existing factory finish.

Sadly you've just discovered what happens with factory finished products - they have a self-life of (roughly) 18 months and then they are never to found again. I'm sorry you had to find this out the hard way.

While birch is softer, it is still a hardwood. If you are wanting to match it, you could send me a sample and I could get as close as possible! Due to the natural wood grain there would be some variation.

I will also point out, if you already have it and like it then go with it. Normally I would recommend something harder, such as maple, which would give you a similar look with that dark of a stain. But, at the same time, I would recommend going with what you like. It is after all your home and I feel you should be happy with where you live!

Jennifer Graham This just happened to us during our remodel, but check each individual store's clearance page on the website - I found our discontinued flooring there at a steep discount!

I looked at all the stores within a 50 mile radius of me and 3 of the 6 had it in stock :)

We ended up tearing it all out and replacing it all.
