Bathroom – new plan brainstorm

last modified: 8 years ago

Some may remember I was going to pull ideas from My3dogs bathroom but the fabric never felt ‘right’ so I did nothing. I’ve accepted my room won’t have same look or feel so moving slightly different direction. Still wanting buffalo check, I stumbled upon this larger check fabric and I think it works better with the flooring. It has both the beige and dark taupe color.

Current look. (I cut down old valance and turned into roman for now.)

    New brainstorm:

    Shower curtain

make a new one with the buffalo check fabric

    Window options

-Install woven shade & call it done

    -Make coordinating roman shade

-Install both woven roman and make check window sill length panels – both mounted high.

    Privacy not an issue.

    Art

I bought this a while back and it’s small but I really like it and immediately thought of this room. Frame in antique gold frame and find another larger coordinating piece for above toilet. Could maybe use some type of shelves instead; glass maybe. Not sure I want shelves. Actually this room has two closets and I’d like to turn the one into built-ins but that’s another thread.Would like to buy a rug to tie everything together. Would like to add a little

rust/paprika color – maybe in additional art and rug.

    Mirror

Found this mirror. Do you like it for in here? I like the warmth of the wood. Was thinking wood from a woven shade + stained wooden mirror + egg basket = three things of warm texture. Can keep searching if not right. Scale is good.

(2" white blinds aren't there anymore and not going up.)

    Vanity

Is SW enamel in high gloss black. Could change to stain or repaint. I do like the black.
    Counter will be solid cream.

    Possible light and
faucet. - Though I've had brief thoughts of chrome finish with white shades. No room for sconces btw. Hardware will match vanity light.

-Wall color is showing darker in most of the photos. It’s BM Van Deusen Blue. I
like the color but not opposed to repainting.

Here's a better photo of the color.

If you made it through all that, thoughts on the fabric for in here?
If so, what window treatment combo?
Then thoughts on that art? Paint? Mirror? Etc. Etc.

Oh and trim is too stark with the floor and will be repainted an off white. Possibly BM White Cloud.

    Thanks!

ETA - I have a slight concern about the buffalo check reading primitive country and I don't want that. Check size is 1-5/8". Will it? I think what else goes in the room is important and think I'm ok here.

I like the Buffalo check with the floor very much. DON'T think that it is always primitive - Here is one example below, and many more HERE.

This is just me, but I took out the chrome faucet when I did my 1/2 bath last year, and put in brass.

The reddish stain of the mirror you show is throwing me off; I'd want to paint it, probably your trim color.

Can you pin or tape up your fabric sample in a pic where we can see it with the vanity color and the walls in the same pic? Since you've gotten away from the lighter color that I did mine in, you may want to get your buffalo check in another colorway. Or it may look great with a black vanity and dark blue walls!

Hi My3dogs! I'll take a photo later of the fabric at the vanity area. I'm not sure what other colorways they had. Were you thinking navy?

I'm not against paint or a lighter palette. I just don't know how to pull it together. That floor is so earthy. My house is also mostly beige so I don't mind a color in here. I don't know that it shows well here but there is blue as well as gray in the floor.

I don't mind painting the mirror. Does it look like a dresser mirror though? Because I believe it was. Again, don't have to use that either.

If I were to use the new check fabric, would you use a neutral for the walls? Then there's the beadboard idea I didn't mention above but didn't toss out. Cream upper walls and off white beadboard. I'm so visual!!!! LOL

I just realized I don't have the sample anymore. :) I had to return it. Could get it again but here's a couple of photos of the vanity.

Tape was for beadboard height ideas.

    Flooring is blown out here.

Fabric again so don't have to scroll up.

Again, this is just me, but I would want to lighten the walls, similar to what is shown in the pic I posted above. Are the checks in your Buffalo check fabric two shades of tan or is one a grayish? The top row of checks in your pic above make them look gray on my monitor, and that fabric is great with your floor.

Yes, I'd probably get dark blue check 'BC' fabric if I was leaving the blue walls. I'd use the mirror only if I painted it your trim color. It doesn't go with anything in there as it is in the current stain, IMO.

Shee, is that Kaufmann fabric? I was told recently that it is going to be discontinued. You may want to check on that.

My3dogs - Would you still do bb in here? Yes, the fabric has both the beige color and a gray/taupey color I think works really well with the floor.

True about the stain color coordinating with nothing,

Tina - Oh no. Hmm..After a quick search I believe it's Roth & Thompkins. And they do carry that in a navy but it's navy and white, which I remember now that's why I left that sample at the store because it was really white. Then again, there's white in this bathroom.

Ah found the photo I was looking for with it against the floor

I do really like this fabric. If I'm going to repaint something neutral I really need to get the colors right.

ETA - I need to pick up a sample of BM Feather Down (the lighter version of BM Manchester Tan). I think that's the color I want to use in the foyer and hall. If it works in both places it might be nice to see the color just extend straight into the bathroom. And the bedrooms down the hall are painted BM Manchester Tan already.

My3dogs - Would you still do bb in here? <- I don't know what you mean by 'bb'. Beadboard, like I have in mine?

Yes, sorry I meant beadboard. I just love your whole bathroom. I wondered if having check floor (though it is diagonal), check fabric, and vertical beadboard if it was too much pattern. I might be overthinking. I'm so visual I wish I could just snap my fingers and visually see different changes IRL to help me make decisions.

Gosh, I have nothing constructive to add, just wanted to say how much I love what you have chosen, She.

Your floor is very neutral, and if you use beadboard and paint it your proposed trim color, I don't see any problem there at all.

I like the fabric and I think it looks beautiful with the tile. I actually kind of like the look with the dark blue walls.

To me the stained wood mirror looks incongruous with the rest of the room.

    I love the art.

The light fixture is very pretty and would be in either gold/brass or chrome. I'd be inclined to match the faucet finish with the light fixture finish, but that might just be me.

    Rita - Which parts, lol?

I think I will go with the brass light. I like brass faucets but then I'm concerned about how the finish will wear overtime. I'm sure it varies by brand. My shower fixtures are chrome and I'd like to leave them so in my head the faucet will relate to the shower. I think the light and the hardware matching will work for me. Also all my door hardware is gold (builder brass) so that's another warm tone.

I think I need to get the fabric make the curtain(s) and then go from there about wall color.

Thoughts about treatment for the window? Woven shade and matching panels like my3dogs set up, woven valance only, or matching roman shade only?

Prairiemom - That's pretty. I do really like a large check! I have a sample of that fabric in the Ecru. The color is in the floor but at the time I dismissed it because there's so much beige in the floor I felt like I was ignoring it. On my monitor the gray looks like a green gray and my floor is a blue gray though. I will keep this one in mind too, thanks!

I found a photo of the Ercu with the other two fabrics.
