Welcome to my world nicholsworth. Snow from Dec. on. In a really bad year we will have snow in early to mid Nov. that stays until April. I still have very deep snow and I have definitely had enough!

Believe me nicholsworth I would like to say good bye to my world sometimes. I will join your pity party. This winter has seemed particularly bad because we had an extended period of extreme cold that had not happened since 1947. Very weird weather for a lot of you. Do you not normally get snow? It would seem abnormal this year for you to have had virtually none.

Kathy your snow was more shocking. Luke loooves the snow and since he is a NC dog it is fun that he enjoys it so much. No wimping out from him. He will be the only sad puppy around here when it finally goes.

peren..it seems to me that years ago we had several big snowfalls every year..but now we have a few light ones and maybe one (or none) big ones..this is the first big snow for me..I agree that for Kathy to have more snow than I did was surprising..it's cute to see animals and kids enjoy the snow but I could live without it!..

The frost damage from the last few nights was pretty minor. All of the pots are off - hoping that was our last freeze of the season.

whitewatervol..your freezes are different than MY freezes..haha..your hosta looks great..

Here is one that got zapped hard. The leaves were about to open and then it got frozen. Hope it recovers.

oh no..yeah that one took a hit..I bet it'll be fine..maybe some of your freezes were colder than I thought..

has finally stopped snowing..there's a pic above from this spot with the chairs..you can see we have more :-(less than 24 hours later..the snow is melting!!..the birdbath has water with a thin layer of floating ice..

Nicholswoth, beautiful winter pictuce. I'm sure snow is soon melting and you can see your hostas. I'm glad that your hostas are still safely sleeping.

Yesterday I read from news, that we here north Europe might have very cold spring. So we will see how long I have snow. Usually in end of March snow starts to melt, but no melting, just more snow for me this year. It might be June until I can count pips.

Babka: your shade for hostas looks very beautiful. I would love to sit there.

More snow forecast for us over the Easter weekend. This is the worst winter and the longest I have experienced in the seven years I have been in Wales.

I have been snowed in for over a week twice now. The snow has been blown in on strong easterly winds and the drifts have been really deep on the track in and out of this place.

Once you hit the road it's fine as the local farmers plough the lanes and the local authority plough and grit the main roads.

The very low temperatures have even blackened my Hellebores and still the bulk of the daffodils have not opened up.

I had a walk round the pots yesterday removing weed seedlings which seem to appear whatever the temperature.

There seemed to be just a hint of movement in the pips but nothing to get excited about yet.

I have mail orders for about 50 plants in total from various nurseries and thought the first week in May would be about right weather wise to receive them. That may have been a bit optimistic.

Any way time will tell. Spring can't be that far away now. Right?

Wow nicholsworth, that's a bigger snowfall than any I've seen in my 3 winters here. I usually see storms that hit you, hit us a bit later, but it completely missed us. 25 degrees this morning, but not a snow flake (or Hosta pip) in sight.

Dave..spring is officially here..what a joke!..my blooming hellebores and nonblooming daffodils ( they were sooo close) are now buried by snow..we won't have snow for long..so you're expecting more snow?..you have my condolences..you have a lot of work ahead caring for all of those pots..

steve..isn't weather unpredictable?..this year Georgia and NC would have snow and we didn't..just last week my husband said "I need to drain the snowblower..didn't use it enough and it's full of gas"..not now..he used it last night..

Spring is here today...weather forecast for next week says otherwise...but I enjoyed a very sunny weekend with gardening work and did a 15 km bike tour today for some treasure hunting...

Our local river with the garden I would love to rent or buy on the other side...seems quite unreachable now. The owners do not react to phone calls and letters :-(

Found a big piece of wood, perfect for some mini hostas, lots of stones and moss, got bitten by a black ant, burned by baby nettles and stung by thorns. In other words : a perfect day!

Made a willow wreath with moss and some other things I found in the garden...

And Blue Angel has pips :-)

More cold weather tonight--we will have lots of storms and rain but it's definitely getting colder.

It was 80 degrees here today (27 C for the non-US contingent). I'm hoping we aren't going straight into summer.

Late winter/spring has been crazy for the last several years. It got so warm in February that things starting coming up too early. Now all my hostas are up, bleeding hearts are starting to bloom and it's supposed to be 29 tomorrow night. *sigh*

One of many previous freezes have gotten the ones that were the very earliest to come up but now I think I'd better get what pictures I can of pips because they're going to be mush Sunday!

It is only supposed to get down to 35 here Saturday night. If we got another freeze at this point, I'd be in trouble since many of my plants are fully leafed out.

Looking further out, it looks like Tuesday night will be cool as well.

I hope you don't get a frost, at least a few of mine are still pips - Halycon, June, Abiqua Drinking Gourd and Blue Mammoth. The rest are leafed out.

I had high hopes for Stained Glass this year - this is what it looks like now. Yours is looking good!

I went out today and covered all hosta that were leafed out, and there were many. Used Garbage bags, unused pots, tarp, and lawn chairs. Supposed to be 28 in the morning with snow showers. Very unusual for April in Tennessee, but not unheard of. After this I should be able to finally uncover everything for good.

Yes, I really like Liberty - especially when the inner leaf turns bluish and the border is a gorgeous creamy white.

Yeah, it does. It's alright - mother nature does her own thing but I'm sure we'll all have some pretty hostas this year :)

Iowa spring so far blows. I need to see my hostas. But I'll wait-we're supposed to get more snow this weekend, and we've still got record breaking low's for high's..we're still about 30 degrees cooler than what we're supposed to be. sigh.

I have another Stained Glass that looks like that picture. Also one of my Guacamole plants got zapped hard along with Aphrodite. Still, this year hasn't been as bad as last year so far for my garden.

Lots of great pics above... but I've gotta say I'm thankful my hostas aren't very far along. I have pips galore, but nothing is up very far, and there's no unfurling at all... all good, since we're having some really cold weather this weekend and possible snow on Sunday.

However, I have about 50+ plants hanging out in the family room, in front of the windows, that I'm raising for the club sale - and they all look great and grow a little more each day. So that's fun. And I'm going to visit a local nursery having it's spring extravaganza tomorrow - with 20% off - and hoping to snag some clematis... and whatever else I might find.

Warmer temps are coming soon.

Didn't sleep well tonight and everytime I looked out of the window the stars shone so bright and beautiful...means another frosty night in April...but life is coming back to the garden quickly now, sun shining and nice temperatures during the day wakes everything up...
