So I had to google this just so I have a idea if I decide to plant new peonies next to XYZ....

Right now, we do a tree peony - the ones I intend to plant are just herb types.

Dare I ask, but how long from a Bare Root do these roots get to be like this - quick google on this turned up this pic

Depending on the variety roots can get that big in around 5 years or so, at least in my experience. Not all increase quickly, though.

A couple years backm i was redoing the dirt and thought it was the root of a rose that I cut out already. In retrospect, after seeing this pic of the peony root system, I'm thinking it was the root of the peony. I stopped digging after 28 inches and said whatever was in the soil, it would just rot in time.

Except that many of the corals will grow into plants from a piece of blind root. Which is why you will see me cautioning people not to be moving the corals from place to place to find the perfect spot.
