Looking for suggestions for small sloping area

I know next to nothing about landscaping/gardening but I am trying to fix up my tiny back yard. I have a small (approximately 2' x 8', pictured) area that slopes away from my patio toward my neighbor's fence (the yard is on the NW side of the building, FWIW). I would like to make it look nice while reducing runoff/erosion toward the fence. I even considered building a deck/seat over it. Ideas would be appreciated.

The bottom of the fence is already touching the soil. This is a recipe for rot. I would try to build some kind of wall or edging to keep the soil off the fence. Then you could level the soil surface and get planting.

Tanalised gravel boards, damproofing membrane and raise the soil level. All you soil will, eventually migrate through the neighbours fence so although you will need to replace treated timber every 10 years of so, it is not a huge expense.
