Same comment as on another thread here...more than 26.000 registered Phalaenopsis hybrids. So you have to be extremely lucky to find a name for an Unknown. Sometimes happens with widely distributed mericlones, but nearly the same doesn't count.

I have one like that. It actually doesn't belong to me but I babysit it for someone. It has no tag so I don't know what it is. I call it the Sunset Phal, which is good as any.

Its in the genes to make lots of spikes and branches. I know this doesn't help you, but just enjoy it as they can be truly amazing.

Here's another which I bought about six years ago from Normans. I didn't expect it to branch this much but as it ages, it makes multiple spikes and branches. These Phals are pretty.

It looks like it has amabilis in it to me, so maybe a "Timothy Christopher' (my first thought upon seeing pic), but you will never really know without an existing tag.

Thanks Arthur, Jane, and Bob! Arthur, I realize it may be impossible to identify, and I do not care to know which exact variety it is. What I was most interested in is the unusual shape of the flower stems. I have been growing orchids for 20 years and have never seen one like that. Although, as Jane posted above, they may be more common than I realize. Jane, those are beautiful!! Bob, I googled the description and the name amabilis did come up and I did find a similar looking photo with that name. I’ve never heard of that. Is amabilis a strange phal cross or just a variety that I’d not heard of? It looked almost like a dendrobium in it’s flowering habit, except it is obviously a phal (and was labeled as such).

Talking the talk. Variety in relation to orchids only applies to species orchids, that is orchids found growing in the wild before "civilisation" arrived. Phalaenopsis amabilis is one of those found in South East Asia extending to Northern Australia. It is found in the pedigree of many modern Phalaenopsis Orchids.
