Your cabinets look a nice color and go with your floor and counter. I wouldn't start with cabinet paint. Try smaller changes first:

    --Remove the valances,

--A longer track light with more lumens

--A colorful runner in colors/pattern that make you happy

--Paint the walls and crown moulding the same color

--Rev-a-shelf cabinet organizers to maximize storage

    --Undercabinet lighting

--New stainless appliances including a strong exhaust hood that exhausts outdoors

--Single basin sink unless you do a lot of handwashing

I agree with benjesbride - the current cabinet color looks better with floors and counter than grey would. In addition to her excellent suggestions, you could consider changing the cabinet hardware (which looks to be fairly 70s). I would start by removing the valances, changing the hardware and painting the walls and crown molding - those are all very inexpensive and easy things that will make a huge difference in the look of the kitchen.

Do you have any actual WALL space in the kitchen, or are the soffits above the cabinets the only painted surface? There are a lot of beige and brown tones in your kitchen, so it might be nice to bring in some color with paint (which is inexpensive and easy to change on WALLS, not so much on cabinets!). A pale shade of blue/aqua/teal might look nice in there. I would do white crown molding regardless of the color you choose for the walls/soffits.

If you could post a couple of additional photos of different angles and with more light (either the overhead light turned on or at a different time of day), that would be helpful - it's hard to see exactly what colors you're working with from the photo you posted.

the brown is so classy. I would pair it with white counter/backsplash/wallpaint for a crisp/fresh approach. the almond toned surfaces and particularly the backsplash are doing you a disservice. The counters? do you have budget to replace them? floor and cabinets are good it appears. However, if the counters are to be replaced, a section of base cabinets replaced to get DRAWERS, might be worth it. Depends on your budget. small kitchens with a few special touches like edge treatment on counters, special hardware, interesting light fixture[along with lighting upgrade] can really amaze with results. Must establish budget.

What a cozy kitchen! I’d agree that the first thing to do is update the lighting, both overhead and under cabinet. It will make a huge difference. Then remove the valances. Actually, they are the most dated things I see in your kitchen.
