Long blank wall help!

Our house is very open concept, and the living room and dinning room share one very long wall (with an unfortunate air conditioner in the dinning room). I'm looking to put something up on the wall to make it less bare. My initial thought is something above the couch, but I am not sure how to deal with the rest of the wall.

Because of the air conditioner I don't feel like we need anything in the dinning room and there is NO room for a buffet or any type of furniture along the wall behind the chairs.

Then there is an empty space about (about 7 feet distance between our dinning space and our living room space) and I have no idea how to treat that space or what to do on the wall. I considered a fireplace in that area, but I am not sure if it would be weird to have a fireplace in an empty area with no furniture around it.

Here are two pictures of the space.

We move our couches around often during the holidays and for hosting parties/poker nights depending on what we need so I do not need suggestions on moving our couches. Our dinning room table is made of marble and centered under the light fixture and cannot be moved. We love our chairs and will not be buying new ones. We are not repainting or redoing the floor or trim. The air conditioner cannot be removed. The small blue box on the floor next to the couch holds our modem and router and unfortunately cannot be moved anywhere else without rewiring the room which we don't want to do.

I'm open to suggestions for artwork and placement, and how to treat the empty space between to two areas please!

Thank you in advance!

I have a few thought... first, you could use a console behind sofa with a lamp. That will give some height to the center of the room and a great exfra surface when entertaining and if you need storage, get one with a cabinet or drawers. Or, you can use a side table and hide that blue box and put a lamp on top to add height. Then, use that great big wall and do a “gallery” wall with photos or artwork. There are tons of gallery wall pics all over the internet. Good luck!

How would you suggest the gallery wall do place? Just above the couch or along the whole wall?
I'm not crazy about the console or sideboard idea because we don't need any more storage or surfaces and since we move the couches often we would have to store the console in another room to clear up space while we're entertainging

As an alternative for the walls, you could do 3D textured wall paper that's different yet elegant. Or you could do a custom glass wall mural of any image or design you like. https://www.houzz.com/projects/1258135/wall-decor

That's an interesting idea! I had never considered wall paper before, thank you!

If I just do artwork over the couch do I try artwork in the empty space as well?

    What about the fireplace idea?

Divide your big wall into two sections, including a small collage of art on the empty area and a larger painting over the couch.

It's difficult to tell from your pictures the layout of the entire space but it certainly doesn't look like you have enough "surfaces". 1 floor lamp lights the room? Hanging stuff willy nilly on a wall without "anchors" will just look unfinished

Why not put chair rail molding on the wall. See attached pictures. Break up the long expanse of the wall with picture frame moldings. You can either paint it a contrasting color or in my case I painted it the same color of the wall.

jck910 can you elaborate on what you mean by "Hanging stuff willy nilly on a wall without "anchors" will just look unfinished" it sounds like you are criticizing without giving helpful advice I'm sure you just forgot to explain what anchors you're talking about.
And yes not seen in the pictures are the rest of the surfaces, we have hosted countless parties and have not even come close to running out of surfaces for food, drinks, board games, decorations, etc.

Thank you groveraxle, that is helpful, I actually have an extra end table and was debating putting it there!

I am hesitant to post more pictures because people always tear apart everyone's home decor and personal choices and comment rudely on things that are unrelated to the original question. I have personal pictures on the opposite wall and planters that I made personally and I do not want to hear how "pros" might think they are all positioned all wrong and whatever other nonsense people come up with. Last time I posted a picture from my dinning room people told me my travertine table was outdated and hideous, but we love it, it is my favourite piece, we got it for an insane bargain, and it seats 8.

I have receive many great suggestions from people so there is no need to post more pictures and open myself up for needly insults.

Your Dilemma: "I'm open to suggestions for artwork and placement, and how to treat the empty space between to two areas please! " It's hard to do that without a full on picture of the entire wall

My response just meant that without the context of the entire room it's very difficult to offer realistic suggestions. If you already have a wall with "personal pictures on the opposite wall and planters" then a gallery wall might be too much on the long wall. Hanging art work that is tall between the 2 rooms will work but hanging art work that is short will look like something is missing underneath it "an anchor"

rudgekatherine, a floor plan might help instead of photos. Even a hand-drawn one with some measurements would work.

We think art over the sofa and a console with art over it in the dining area would be very nice. Here are some of our designs below that might aid you:
