Take samples of affected parts to a USDA Cooperative Extension branch office for diagnosis. Otherwise all of the shrubs you have made the central subjects in photos here are forms of Rhaphiolepis umbellata - no Kalmia are apparent in these pictures.

Prune Rhaphiolepis to shape in mid-spring. Cut here and there, just above forks down inside the bush. If you cut all or most branches in a section back you will be looking at bald or thin areas until the recovery growth is well along toward replacing the old.

you really should NOT use something you just happen to have in the garage .... without knowing its proper ...
