It's your kitchen. You should be able to find plenty of pictures online to see if you like this look or not. That said a safer choice is to vary either the counters OR the cabinets, but not both. That's not to say it can't look good with both different if well chosen, but there is more risk of looking disjointed/choatic/etc particularly in smaller spaces.

Yes, the trend is to have one counter for both pieces but if its done right, have 2 different ones can be stunning!

I would go with a simple grey on the perimeter, maybe something with minimal movement. and then something like a blue flower on the island. I can attach some photos if you want to see them

Is it too late to go with taller windows?

I know that wasn't your question, but the current windows look a bit squat for the space.
