We are in the middle of renovating our kitchen and it has been a total disaster. The cabinetmaker has made so many mistakes, and it has significantly delayed the completion of our kitchen. We are currently about 3 months behind schedule and still don't have a usable kitchen. The entire kitchen was custom cabinetry, yet so many things are wrong. For those of you who have been in a similar situation, how was it resolved? Did they give you a discount on your cabinets? Did they pay your contractor to do the extra work to fix the errors? Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. We received our cabinetry 7 weeks ago (after already being 6 weeks late), and our kitchen is still totally unusable because we are still waiting on replacement cabinets to be built.

A summary:

*Ordered cabinets in late October, expected to receive them mid-late December. They arrived February 8th (about 6 weeks late)

*Opening for one of the wall ovens was too short by about 10" - pieces have to be cut out of the opening, a new drawer had to be made, and our contractor has to do extra work to rebuild the opening which should have just fit the ovens. Our ovens still aren't installed.

*Opening for coffeemaker was supposed to be 16" above the counter - instead they built it 3 feet above the counter (it was built upside down). Entire area with coffee/beverages needs to be rebuilt to fix this. They also need to redesign it because they realized that their original plans for the area won't work. No ETA on when this will be completed. We don't have a pantry and we can't install the undercounter fridge/freezer in the beverage section until this is rebuilt.

*Microwave drawer was supposed to be flush to drawers next to it - it was built with a standard installation instead and sticks out past the drawers. Drawer base has to be rebuilt, which means we can't put the countertop on our island until we receive the new drawer base, which means we can't install the faucet on our sink until we have the countertop. The countertop company can't come to template for our island countertop until the cabinetry is installed. No ETA.

*Microwave drawer was also set too high in the cabinet, so the top of it was higher than the drawer next to it - so the microwave and the drawer had different heights of framing above them.

*Pullout for trash cans is too high - the trash bags get caught on the opening when you open and close the pullout. Entire cabinet has to be rebuilt and we can't put the counter on our island until this is completed.

*Built-in paper towel holder supposed to have a paper towel rod in the front and room to store extra paper towels behind it - paper towel rolls don't fit in the drawer behind it (the drawer isn't high enough) - drawer is being rebuilt (it is above the trash can)

*Slide out shelves in cabinets don't slide out because they hit the cabinet door and it blocks them from sliding out. Shelves are being rebuilt.

*Warming drawer doesn't sit flush with the drawers next to it and sticks out - cabinet needs to be rebuilt. We can't put down part of the countertop until this is rebuilt.

*Various sections of trim are too short and had to be rebuilt

*Drawers that were going underneath the sink didn't account for the garbage disposal (despite us telling him about it) and have to be rebuilt

*Panels for some appliances are too large - have to be rebuilt

*Silverware dividers not built as we specified (the dividers were for regular kitchen tools and not for flatware, so there's a lot of wasted space) - being rebuilt

*Knife block in drawer not built as we specified and also not the same wood color as the rest of the drawer interiors - being rebuilt

*Multiple scratches in the paint or small chips in the wood that were painted over

There are a bunch of other little items that were problems, but these are the main issues.
