I'm more about utility especially in the kitchen so any "decor" in my kitchen is functional--glazed stoneware canister for cooking utensils, wooden crates to hold my cookbooks and aprons, a shiny KitchenAid mixer, an enamel coffee pot (we make our coffee stovetop).

Yes looking for lights. Eating area on the other side of the peninsula. Thinking about pendant lighting too. Wondering how to brighten up the space. We have a dark espresso table as well with 6 chairs and will be purchasing a sideboard for the space.

What does your ceiling light look like?

We haven’t bought lights yet. Moving in in 2 weeks. This is a staging picture of the kitchen which has a large eat in area on the other side of the peninsula.

How about elaborating on your cafe sign, you could set yourself up a nice little home cafe bar on your countertop which displays nicely, the corner space would be a good spot.

Also, I don't know if I'm just old school but a counter island always seems to need some fresh fruit set out in a great big bowl, talk about a pop of color! Some ideas:

You can do under cabinet lighting, along with recessed lighting in the kitchen if you need more lights.
